Re: Peer to Peer Programs

More stupid logic. First off, every piece of software that communicates via TCPIP is a server. The app listens on one port and talks back on another (serves). When your browser makes a request to a server, it is doing the serving.

Blocking ports is just stupid. That's like saying 'we blocked that port so no more viruses will be coming into THIS network, by golly'. And as for stopping p2p, why? Because of bandwidth? ALL websites are serving up more and more bandwidth every day. Block p2p because the content is illegal? How do you know? There's legal stuff shared via p2p and there's illegal stuff transferred in email. What next, scanning all email a la big brother to block portions of that content, too?

Stupid. Just a matter of time before Time Warner gets their pants sued off.

For the most part P2P is a tool for copyright infringement.
I read 90% of the material on P2P is copyrighted. I used to use P2P but I no longer do I don't want law enforcement officers knocking down my door.

I have recently been made aware that AT&T is blocking out the Kazaa ports to lower the traffic in the Sacramento area. If this is true, then it would be cool to see them go down in flames. After all, are they not keeping their promises to the contract that I signed for them? Isn't this what we would like to call a BINDING Contract that they are not upholding? I have a friend that works in the news station at channel 31 in the Sacramento area, and I have asked them to look up what is going on. If anyone can mudrake the best, then we can count on our local news men to investigate better than lawyers or Private Investigators. Some people that have AT&T don't think they have a problem with Kazaa, but I can't get a freakin' download worth the lint in my pockets. Could it be that ME is a POS? Here's a thought...Some of the friends that I know are using the corporate edition XP and they can't get service from Kazaa anymore. I sure hope someone has an Idea of what is going on, because I will hire an attorney to bring their asses down. It may not be on an upscale lawsuit, but it will make them think twice. Let me know what you guys think. Let's take this thing to the Press. Bad publicity is not good for cable companies. Especially when the economy is slow. HHHHHHMmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

More than likely your ISP is blocking Kazaa...and for good reason. Most ISP's will have you sign a contract for residential service and in that contract it will state that you cannot run a web server. When you run Kazaa you are doing just that. It has nothing to do with the RIAA, it has everything to do with p2p networks clogging up ISP's bandwidth.
If your computer constantly uploads, and then you also do alot of downloading, you are using up much more than the $50, or whatever money you are paying for the service.
One solution is for ISPs to allow the use of programs like Kazaa, and monitor those who use it, and when they use much more than they pay for, they will get a bill for the superfluous bandwidth so that more may be purchased to serve the other customers better.
More and more ISPs, I suspect, will be blocking Kazaa if users of p2p networks can't be more responsible in the usage of bandwidth.

Suing them wont do any good, because if you read the contract they more than likely signed, it probably says unlimited, but not in the event a customer runs their computer like a web server.

Check your contract again. If it says you are not allowed to run a "web server", then yes...they are keeping true to the contract.

Hello everyone, I have no problems here in Florida. Your local market is over extended. When they catch up everything will be fine. It is the typical advertisements boosting sales and then they must and will accomadate the new commers. The Florida Road Runner people rock. The major problem is Time Warner, they don't particularly care( give a shit). Rock On. Jay

About RR blocking ports. I have it on a very good inside source that if you call and notify them that blocking ports 1214 or anyports for that matter violates their service agreement, they will remove the blocked port. Up until 2 months ago, my area was also effected by this blocking of port, but once they were called on this, they removed the block. Some of the workers there think its a power-trip thing but it totally violates their claims. I know that there are still areas that are blocking this port and they must be called on this. I hope this helps everyone out. My advice to all is that you call them asap and complain about it. If this doesn't work then tell them that you will have to resort to legal actions.

Later all,
