Has anyone tried to cancel their Rogers yet?Well, my new ISP (AEI) is working very good now, so it was time to cancel Rogers, I talked to a sales representative about canceling my line, I told her, "because of the bandwidth cap that was proposed to me 3 weeks ago". She says, "can I put you on hold?" "Yeah, okay.." 10 minutes later she come back on the line and says, "I'm so very sorry sir, I have a sales technician who would like to talk to you." "Yeah, alright" Then this guy came on the line and asked if I wanted to cancel my service, I said, "yeeeesss" He said, "is there any particular reason why?" "Yeah, because of the bandwidth cap that was proposed in my area, I don't enjoy signing up for one service then having the sheets get pulled over my eyes as you 1/2 my service and continue charging me the same amount as the original bandwidth I was signed up for." He goes, "sir I assure you, Rogers will be introducing a higher speed service soon..." "..Yeah, but I don't want to pay more" He continues, "Right now every Rogers customer is paying the same flat rate, when this new faster service is announced ..." Then I just cut him off, "Listen, I would like to go ahead and just cancel my service now" "Sir, a assure you, you won't be disappointed with the faster service that will be announced in the future.." "I told you already, I don't want to hear what you've been told to say, now let me cancel right now, or I'll personally give you the modem myself!" --Silence--- He comes back, "When would you like us to cancel Rogers High Speed Internet?" "As soon as possible" "Could you give me a date?" "What is the earliest you've got?" The tech, "Tomorrow between 8 and 11am, I can send a technician to pick up the modem" "Is that the earliest you've got?" "Yes" "That good enough, fine, thank you." "Thank you for choosing Rogers High Speed Internet, have a good day" "Bye" This guy would not quit on me, I told him that I already have a new service, I told him AEI. He was asking me so many questions, that are supposed to make a customer think, "Hmm, should I really cancel?" That was the most annoying phone call I had to make this year. Glad it's all over with now...*phew* [text was edited by author 2002-07-20 15:58:06] |

Yeah, Rogers has always been very aggressive in trying to save the sale. For cable, internet and cellular. |
|
|
I checked out AEI, plus EVERY ADSL provider on canadianisp that's less than $50/month.... NONE are available in my area... I recently moved to one of those new areas, where everything's still under construction Anyone got a solution? I don't really care about speeds as long as it's 50kb/sec download, 10kb/sec upload, cheap, and no limits. |

Oh sure, Neeloy. Bell does what they can to try and save the sale, but they usually offer stuff the customer wants. Rogers has this annoying habit of ramming their service down your throat when you try to cancel. They don't give you any breaks, they just try to make you feel like a moron. At least that was my experience when I cancelled my cell service and cable with them. |

True, but by offering customers these ridiculously low offers, they have given all these expectations to people that they can't maintain. Bell has been offering a ridiculously cheap service to undercut Rogers and hoping that once they had won the sales, they would be able to up their prices and people would stay with them. Whether this strategy will work or not is still to be seen. I'm not saying that I agree with what Rogers has done, just that I can see it being necessary for them to take this step to maintain some margins in the present environment. As far as trying to convince customers to hold out on them? Well I think its a nice idea, but I doubt it will work. |

That's good. Take it out on people who are just trying to make a living. If you don't like it, hang up. There is absolutely no need ever to be rude to a telemarketer. |

I will reply for him(hope he doesn't mind), I just wanted to answer your question quickly. He got the external Daewoo modem for $200.00, its amazing, seen with my own eyes, and he is at borderline for the service, and it is the 3.5 mbits/800 kilobits connection, the pings are a little lousey but he is working on getting that fixed, btw the modem looks really nice. |
|
|
Thx green... i still want to know, is it the 1 they sell, or did he get it from some where else? thx latz |

He got it from them, sorry, I thought I stated that. he also had a problem with the modem they sent him, would only connect for 10 minutes then would loose sync, but they sent out purolator to give him a new one, and it works like a charm, he is tweaking like mad. Nice connection though, apart from the pings. |

I didn't have any problems canceling my Rogers Internet. I called them and they said it would be disconnected within 24hrs. They allowed me to return the modem at a Rogers Video/Cable store. Of course they asked why I was canceling and I did said to them it was because of the speed caps and the way they were quietly doing it hoping no one would notice. The first guy I talked to was shocked to hear my speed was cut in half. He then put me through to the accounting department. The accouning guy knew of the speed reductions and said a number of people had been calling the last few weeks to cancel their service as well. Typical of Rogers that only half their employees know what the heck is going on! |

You know what's the worst, they just start babbling without giving you a chance to say "I'm not interested".... "Hi my name is Sherry and I'm calling to let you know that Toronto Star is having a special on blah blah blah for 5cents less than it is on the news stand....." and they go on and on.... Don't even get me started on door to door salesgeeks. When i had a dog, it sneaked out once and it bit one of those Jehova's Witnesses in the ankle when they were trying to "convert me". Them two ran away as fast as they could, lost half their evil propaganda on my yard. |

Any dealings you have with *ROGERS*.....have the persons employee number and also if possible have a micro cassette to record their comments.....A friend of mine is going thru a suit with them right now.....the reason he is winning is because of his evidence that he aquired with these items. It all started with the introduction of their Digital TV.....and has expanded to their Internet Service. He caught them in many lies and false promotions, and from what i understand he is about to gain a settlement from them......Stet |
