bdeli join:2002-01-09 Toronto, ON | Setting up a wireless network with rogers - help! I am planning to set up a wireless network and am planning to get these tomorrow:
1 Linksys Etherfast Wireless 4PT Switch & 2 Linksys Wireless Network Card Bus
My question: is the Wireless 4PT Switch configurable for rogers. Is it possible to clone the mac address i have on the nic card sent from rogers to the linksys router - if yes how? |
|
 | hmm. is a wireless faster than a normal ethernet bsaed network? if so, how much do those cost?
i have a normal linksys 4port router right now, and in the router config, there's a clone mac address section. |

I just need to know if the router can be cloned to a new mac address, or else hear anybody's views on this particular setup. |

| Cloning the MAC Address is possible in the non-wireless version of the Linksys Router, I have the BEFSR41 model. I'm sure its possible in the wireless one as well, and it should look very similar to the screenshot. -- Crunch for Team Discovery! Also visit www.ihaterogers.ca |

bdeli join:2002-01-09 Toronto, ON | Got the Liksys Etherfast Wireless Access Point. Setup worked like a charm - it even cloned the mac address automatically from the SOHO network card I still had installed.
I am using two Linksys WCP11 cards with WEP (on two seperate laptops). Does this slow access to the internet? I found that websites take a bit longer to load up - any tweaking can be done to resolve this? |

HiVoltPremium join:2000-12-28 Toronto, ON kudos:17 | I don't notice any speed difference with 128bit WEP disabled or enabled on my Linksys WAP11 AP, and my Lucent Orinoco Gold card in my laptop. |

bdeli join:2002-01-09 Toronto, ON | Actually managed to get my stuff cheaper from Futureshop. Got the Linksys Etherfast Wireless Access point for $230 (since I found it cheaper from »www.ncix.com) and there is another $25 rebate.
I love the phrase they love to use - lowest price guarantee! |

kevmetricCompetition, Open And Free Markets join:2002-01-15 | reply to bdeli It's a long way, from Burnaby to Toronto or Montreal, which is where that online store is located.
Personally, I would never consider shipping a fragile device like a router, on ground or air, in a small box 2,000 miles away. Even for $10 S&H. What happens if you need to take it back to the store?
Luckily, FS met the price ... ;] |

| I myself shop locally 98% of the time. The selection, availability and prices are good in Toronto, lots of competition amongs small computer stores, as well as bigger chains like Future Shop and Business Depot. I've only bought a few specialty items from the internet, such as upgrades for my laptop (DVD, HDD, CPU) because they are insanely expensive at local notebook shops. -- Crunch for Team Discovery! | I try to shop around for stuff from the States, since they are normally cheaper - even if I have to pay taxes to get them back in.
The only thing to keep in mind when buying stuff locally is the price. Futureshop always have their prices above average, so my advice is do a little research before making a purchase.
I got the wireless router from Futureshop since they were running a promo + there was a $25 rebate. Got the 2 WPC11 cards from Futureshop online since they did not have them in store(they arrived 2 days later with free shipping). There was a 15$ rebate on each.
Than I checked the price of the router on »www.ncix.com, which was cheaper, went to Futureshop the day later and got $45 back.
So at the end I saved $45 + $55 in rebates! And it was cheaper getting it from Toronto than US!

kevmetricCompetition, Open And Free Markets join:2002-01-15 | reply to bdeli The rebate promotion indicates that a maximum of 2 rebates per address is allowed, meaning 1 rebate for the router access point, another rebate for one client PC Card, are together the limit. If you have a second PC Card, it will be disallowed, no?
It requires you cut the bar code from the box, send a copy of your bill, and fill out the rebate form, as well, for each product. |
|
bdeli join:2002-01-09 Toronto, ON | The rebate form states that you are eligible for two products for every SKU per person. So the router and two pcmica netwo cards can be claimed.
It has the usual terms and conditions for other rebates I got, cut the barcode and send a copy of the receipt. They will be sending payment within 5 weeks. |
