Re: fvs318- beta firmware

Apparently you are not correct. Just for grins I changed it from 5190 to 15190 and it connected without issues.
Netstat says:

TCP fex34-xp:3230 64.12.24.176:15190 ESTABLISHED

I agree this is somewhat off topic although it originated due to a FVS318 firmware inability to handle ICQ and AIM properly.
This is my last post on this ICQ issue.

Hmm...but did that fix the problem? I still lose SSH and AIM connections every once an a while...usually happens when i'm using it, then i switch and browse something, then go back, and then my ssh connection is gone

That means they have a buggy ICQ/AIM ALG (Application Level Gateway) support on the router. When you switch to higher port you are bypassing the built-in ALG. However, certain functions such as file-transfer may fail to work.

Changing the ICQ port did not fix the dropped sessions (for me) but rather turning off the ICQ option of "Keep Alive" did stop the session drops. I don't know what that means in terms of what's right or wrong in the modem. The Sonicwall seems to care less of that option is on or off.

Another Problem?

My ISP disconnects my connection once every ~24 hours. I am not sure if this is a result of the P firmware or "something else" in the universe, but now at the ~24 hour mark, the router doesn't disconnect, but all connectivity issues cease to function (port 80/html, P2P, port 25 traffic, etc.). Reseting the connection (via router disconnect/connect or power cycle) fixes the issue. This is a major pain in the *ss trying to maintain the connection. Has anyone else experienced this? FYI - the ISP is T-Online here in Germany. Steffan - hast du auch die selbe Probleme?

In case I was unclear -

Before when the ~24 hours was up, the router would loose the connection, reestablish the connection (with new IP), and then everything would be fine.

Now after 24 hours, the service doesn't work, but the connection doesn't "disconnect", requiring the connection to be reset on my (client) side.

Meinst du mich?
Here in Luxembourg, we have PPPoE with dynamic IP addresses, but the P&T (Post & Telecommunications) doesn't enforce a regular log-off. I did notice that on one occasion the FVS318 needed a reboot to get the traffic flowing again, even though it didn't think it was disconnected (and the TX and RX indicators on my Alcatel SpeedTouch Home kept flashing regularly). Since then, it's been running for nearly 74 hours without any problems, not too shabby, and an indication that the P software doesn't entice ISPs to disconnect users forcibly

Take care,

Stefaan

@tosco.com

I had the same thing happen with mine. Called tech support and they immediately recognized this problem, so they must be seeing a lot of it. They refered to it as re-booting. They very quickly agreed to RMA the unit. I am waiting for the new box to come in now.
