 | DLS use i will have dls installed in my house in a week. the and the only concern is that i use kazaa and edonkey do get mp3, music video, game demos and movies sometimes. when i meen somtime, its probobly twice or 3 times a week, and i used to leave the computer on all night. do any of you know if there will be any problems with that. will DLS get mad or cut off the service. i will be paying $65 a month and i want to use it to the max. |

 | They haven't said anything about my Kazaa habits yet, but it's a good idea to only do it at night (i.e. between 10 pm and 8 am), and disable file uploading and supernode capability (that really pisses off ISPs having that enabled). |

 | that good to know. i hope it won't bother them. paying $65 a month is allot of money, i have a appointment this week. i hope everything goes good. thanks for the reply |

 | reply to NKS They have a policy against running servers and Kazaa/Bearshare and all the other P2P file sharing programs, and I'm sure you understand why, with only 2 T1's to the w-pop and say more then 50 users per w-pop, you can do the math and figure out that 3Mbs/50 does not = 256k each, which is the minimum you should get. Typically its not a problem having 400 people share that much bandwidth (we do it at my work in a corporate environment) do to the fact that not everyone will be using it at the same time and the very nature of the web (connect-get page-disconnect). But if everyone ran a server and each let 10 people grab MP3s from them... If you were the one person NOT doing this and your speeds dropped to below dial-up you'd be pissed. I use Kazaa, but like the other guy, I don't share and I don't "super-node". In the end, if you don't degrade other peoples connections to the point where they call up and complain, in other words don't draw attention to yourself, you should be fine. |

DLSnet join:2002-08-22 Lake In The Hills, IL | reply to NKS Hi, I work for DLS and have been reading this thread for a while. I will provide some answers to questions that are posted here every once in a while and supply DLS's point of view.
Since I am speaking on behalf of DLS here I just wanted to caution you against using these applications excessively because DLS will lock you at 256 rate (minimum speed guarantee) if those services are used excessively. With respect to using 1Mb "to the max": 1Mb does not cost $65 - DLS does not get bulk bandwidth even close to this rate. If it had to reserve 1Mb for every user - this service would simply not exist. |

thumbs down from: DLSnet
| reply to SawyerB4 then i will be switching to ATT or earthlink as soon as it will be avaible.
had ATT for long time, before the move, and the speed was constant 1.5mb, never slowed down, and the cost was $50.
can't wait, but this will do for now |
