 | Rogers spying? Go to run, type in msconfig then click on startup. I've noticed that, there is a tool called Daemon's tool. Did some research along with helps from my friends and found out that," Tool" was a tracing tool. Rogers use to log out websites. Anyone else have this tool on their startup? -- The faster, the better! |

 | uhhh no.. Daemon Tools is a cd-emulation/virtual-cd program. http://www.daemon-tools.de for reference. -- Fergal Warde Senior RBUA Member http://www.rbua.org |

 | reply to toronto2001 I don't have that installed @ all. That is the other porgram (hacker). I believe the Rogers' one is called Spy Daemon. -- The faster, the better! |

 | now how would rogers sneak this "daemon tool/spy" on to our computers without us knowing??? haha.... ur funny... it's probably some program that you installed or some other software installed without you knowing.... i haven't installed a single piece of rogers software (from their cds) so I guess i'm safe if there is any "spyware" on those cdz...
rogers use to scan ports before though... don't know if they still do.... |

| reply to toronto2001 Sometimes when you install programs, for example kazaa, morpheus etc, you get spyware, it isn't rogers spying on you, its just spyware. Watch what you install, or get Ad-aware to get it off. »www.lavasoft.com (ad-aware) [text was edited by author 2002-08-16 15:05:45]

 | reply to toronto2001 Sources say that the firmware from the modem that you have from Rogers installed the program. Everytime, Rogers pings, the data is sent. -- The faster, the better! |

elusionPremium join:2001-10-25 Scarborough, ON | reply to toronto2001 My question to you is, why don't I have that in my startup? Why? I believe it has nothing to do with rogers, and simply a spyware/adware, I remove these things by using ad-aware. Its not rogers. |
|
 | reply to toronto2001 Hmm, found some spyware on my computer.... Daemon... There removed it. -- The faster, the better! |

Nah... No "spyware" on my machine. As some others already have mentioned, you've probably installed some stuff of the internet, which in turn installed this piece of software. If Rogers wanted to spy, don't you think it would be easier for them to just go through their logs? |
|
 | Nah, i doubt rogers would implement spyware into their apps. However, I wouldn't touch their software installation cd with a 10foot pole! |

Re: Rogers spying? Thanks for the heads-up toronto2001, it probably has nothing to do with Rogers but I removed two suspicious start-ups which I've suspected of being spyware namely Program: NvCplDaemon, Filename: Rundll32.exe NvQTwk,NvCpIDaemon which was Loading from; HKEY_LM\Run plus a Sync Manager. No ill effects so far. Seems that we have to be on guard at all times, many unauthorized programs/applications and spyware are able to get passed our firewalls without being blocked or even launching a pop-up alert. |

| Uriel, NvQTwk and NvCpIDaemon are a part of nVidia drivers. If you removed them you might have problems with accessing the settings in the control panel or playing games... If you find you get problems, just reinstall the driver. -- Crunch for Team Discovery! Also visit www.ihaterogers.ca |

 | reply to Uriel3 instead of removing what could possibly be important .dlls and system files, i would recommend installing a good firewall (i.e. zonealarm) as it will detect just about anything that attempts to access the internet or any internal networks....

Thanks HiVolt for pointing that out to me, I must have gotten carried away with that word "Daemon", sounds sinister. I checked the Control Panel and Display Panel layout and it looks and works fine, but I didn't take any chances and reinstalled the W2K NVIDIA drivers just in case. It may also have something to do with the NVIDIA Driver Helper Service which I had to disable a while back in Services because it was hindering the start-up. I'll leave well enough alone even though there's never seems to be a shortage of bloatware sucking up systems resources for no good reason. |

| Yeah, I regularly check for any suspicious processes. I usually don't install any freeware/shareware/demos off the net because almost everything these days is plagued with spyware or tracking software. I run Ad-Aware once a week, once in a while it finds something... Some bloody websites do stuff behind your back too, with malicious code that takes advantage of IE exploits. I dont like firewall software, too much stuff to configure to get everything working. -- Crunch for Team Discovery! Also visit www.ihaterogers.ca |

| reply to toronto2001 I ran a sniffing program on thier network and I couldn't help noticing that their main servers log the sites I have been visiting. In the log file of the sniffer it showed every single IP address that I have connected to in the past week even CS server IPs! I know what toronto2001 means about the daemon. It is installed by the firmware in the modem to track what sites you have visited and sends it to rogers. I believe it is called a track daemon or something along those lines. All I say is that ur being watched. Even with the tracking daemon disabled they still log what IPs you connect to. I'll post the log file if you wish. |

| If that's the case akiclan, why doesn't everyone on Rogers have this so called tracking daemon running? I haven't noticed anything suspicious in my process list on any of the machines in my house... Or being behind a router remedies this? -- Crunch for Team Discovery! Cause I noticed the daemon right after I installed Windows. But WTF is this shit of all the sites I visited in their servers. |

elusionPremium join:2001-10-25 Scarborough, ON | reply to toronto2001 I don't have the daemon, I had it before, but it was right after I installed some crap, I took it off with ad-aware. |
