gnnn join:2002-07-13 Canada | using a playstation 2 with Rogers A few of my friends on Rogers have been trying to get their playstaions online with Rogers. None of them have been successful, and Rogers tech support says that it is impossible. Has anyone tried this and got it to work without using a router? Thanks |

 | MAC address can be spoofed using a broadband gateway. Perhaps that's the solution. Have not tried this (I'm with a different provider) But I do use a broadband sharing gateway and I can spoof the MAC address.
Good luck |

It seems there is some kind of problem with them connecting with certain modems. I will post again when I find out what the problem was and how we resolved it. |

 | I have my Rogers internet hooked up to my PS2. I have been connected to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. I use a Linksys USB adapter to connect to my Terayon modem. I just plugged the adapter into the front of the PS2. My adapter is right in the THPS3 manual as compatible, guess I lucked out... |

 | reply to gnnn try leaving ur modem off for a few mins then plug in the ps2 and plug in the modem... on my docsis modem i can switch computers and network cards by simply reconnecting the modem... when i connect a different nic, it assigns a new ip to the nic's mac adress |

I'm not privy to nor have I researched Roger's implementation of DHCP (assigning IP addresses) but if they are issuing IPs based on NIC/hub/router MAC or are requiring a specific hostname (ala @Home) then there might be problems. The Cogeco network assigns IP based on modem mac so it doesn't matter what you have behind that device (although it will only bind to so many devices). |

Why is it that sony doesn't know what the problem is? Why wouldn't sony have made them so they will work with existing ISP connections? Why didn't sony release info on how this could be fixxed before they released it? |

Some people are always going to have problems. They are the ones that try to pulg an rj-11 cable into their ps2 to get on the net. People with rogers on the other hand are having problems with DHCP which is not a sony problem

 | reply to gnnn Hey I've heard that if you use a router you should be able to connect with rogers, well it doesn't work for me so are those people wrong or am I not doing something right? I would love to be playing online right now and I hope rogers fixes the problem sooner then later
thanks for any help

datac8Rogerstech join:2002-06-08 Toronto, ON | reply to gnnn alrighty folks... theres been a lot of confusion posted here, let me elaborate: (i work for rogers)
first of all, this specific problem with the not being able to get an IP I suspect (and so far have only seen) with the Terayon modem platform. This is because this platform has the strictest of IP / dhcp assigning schemes...I suspect that if you have a docsis modem, a power cycle or a hardware reset will get you the IP, lancity also should not be an issue. Can't say for sure about the Motorolas but they should be okay as well.
Putting in the CR# will make no difference, as these are not used any longer.
Releasing the IP first (although important!) on a terayon does not seem to make a difference either.
At Rogers we have a tool that actually allows us to see the DHCP process in real time, and I can tell you that this is what it looks like with a PS2 netcard on the Terayon platform:
Discovers 1 Offers 1 Request 0 Ack 0
Now what this means, for all you DHCP literate people, is that the PS2 is sending out a discover, our DHCP server is sending back an Offer but then nothing happens after that. This can because our DHCP servers dont like the formation of the DHCP packets and dont "like" the PS2 request, or the PS2 is just simply not sending one.
If you have a terayon modem on Rogers, you will, likely now and in the future, need a router to use this technology. There is not much Rogers can/will do about this.
If you have any further questions, please write! Flames will be ignored...i'm just trying to help.

wrileyI'M Sick Of Fixing Your Computer.Premium join:2001-08-30 Edmonton, AB | reply to gnnn Yes I believe all service providors are having the same problem. It is a problem with the SONY PS2 ADAPTER not with the taryon modems. If you own a taryon modem you will need a router to pick up the IP and there is no way around it. |
