kudos:4 | And guess what they'll replace your modem with ? Another Motorola or a Terayon .... DOCSIS really won't buy you much, especially over the Motorola modems which were the fore-runners to DOCSIS anyway. |

for many people, especially competitive gamers, ping amplitude, and ping stability are incredibly important.
A DOCSIS modem, or lancity, can ping 1ms to the gateway, while the non DOCSIS terayons ping 15-25 to gateway. While 20 milliseconds may seem trivial to most, it is very substantial when it comes to games such as quake3. |

I was at a building in Kanata today (on business for another tenant) where Terayon has their headquarters. The public elevator had about 10 crates marked as containing Terayon DOCSIS modems in them.  Don't know why they would leave ~$10,000 worth of equipment lying around like that!
