 | Anyone had this? I signed up with Flashcom around December 1999. I was immidiately charged $100 deposit, that will be credited towards my service fee, as they told me. I signed up when they had promotion (416/208 for 39.99 a month). My installation went very smooth, and I never had a single connection problem. Now, 2 weird things happened. First of all, instead of getting 416/208 ADSL line, I got 416/416 SDSL. And the funniest thing, is that NEVER after those hundred bucks, I saw another charge from Flashcom. A year later, when I had to call them to release my line so I can switch to Earthlink, they told me that Northpoint took over all of their account information and Flashcom has no record of me....
This pretty much comes out to a YEAR of free SDSL and not a single interruption in service.
Anyone else had this, or knows whats up with all of this? |

Never got another bill or charge after that and this is going on 2 years. I don't dare call them now as they are in chapter 11. I will just wait until it stops working and then wory about it. No wonder they went bankrupt. By the way mine is with Covad so I read that it will still be online until the courts decide what to do. -- jamesd3 Central New Jersey work construction at day construct computers at night |

Multiply this by probably scores of accounts, and it starts to add up. I knew their accounting was screwy when they would go months without billing me, but in that case they did end up piling on all those charges in one month eventually. |

 | reply to FlatMan Yup. Same here. I ordered 416/208 ADSL, got 416/416 with a SDSL modem through Northpoint. Never saw another charge after the $100.
I got an email back in December that I needed to switch to Telocity or risk being shut down. As of today, I still have my free flashcom connection and it's as solid as ever, but I know it could die any day now.
I called Telocity this week to ask for a new modem and to sign up for service. There's no contract with Telocity which is good for me...I plan to switch to cable in a month when it's available. |

Jacob join:2000-11-28 San Jose, CA | dang- I wish I had 416 up! Anyways, SAME billing- I have been billed a 100 bucks, and that's all. Funny thing is that I signed up with covad. Covad had a $225 rebate!!! Wow! 125 bucks as well as crappy adsl (my 608/128 is slowing to 200/75) all for free! Oh well. Anyone have any tips on getting adsl which really acts faster (or acts like sdsl)? Thanks! |

Many times my ADSL at 608K/128K acts like SDSL! 128K up and 128K down. I just need a good overnight freeze to increase the error rate on the line and it magically goes symmetric when it finally manages to resync.

 | reply to FlatMan Me too. I signed up the same time you did (Dec. 99). No monthly charges until June or July 2000. No wonder they went under!

 | reply to FlatMan I too was billed the initial $100 and nothing more. The unbilled months represent a Flashcom asset and I doubt that the bankruptcy court will let them disappear. I predict that if Flashcom folds, the collectibles will be sold and another company will bill you. So keep any records you have because I wouldn't count on the eventual billing being accurate. |

bresni join:2000-06-18 Red Oak, TX | reply to FlatMan Almost the same story here for me too. Signed up for 384/272 and got 384/408 for 39.95/mo. They immediately charged me the hundred and I didnt see another charge to my card until 3 weeks before rythms migrated me to Earthlink in December. The bill was was only for 3 months worth of service. I ran almost 9 months with never any outage or degradation. The service was rock solid with very low latency and i had a static IP too. My Earthlink now still runs at 384/408 but no more static IP. And their UUNET backbone is not as robust as the Level3 backbone that Flashcom used. |
