Re: Same prices...no big deal! said by Techie2000: Also by advertising slower speeds they can give customers farther away DSL that normally would be out of range. Generally connections within the standard range of a DSLAM or RT will be in the 1MBps download range...
Covad does this, but not SBC. I can get 256k Covad ADSL but still can't get any SBC DSL. |
|
 | You will. I was in a business office for res last week and they were all getting trained on the tiered plan. I think SBC will be pushing it out to 17K ft at 384 down speed. I'm sure it will remain 128K up. |

 | reply to 2farfromCO7 I cannot get ANY DSL service (live between two towns who have both DSL and Cable service). I also live in the heart of SBC country (Okla). I am about 4000 feet of both towns and would like DSL. COVAD says I might qualify, SBC says NO. I wonder if this marketing ploy is just another sucker deal to get you sucked in for the kill? I keep reading all you guys posts and hope someday I can get off this Dial-up. |

 | reply to Abe Froman So are you telling me that there was absolutely nothing stopping them from providing me with 384k DSL for $49.95 all along???? If so these people are by far the stupidest business people in the history of capitalism. They could've owned the broadband market in my 4 suburb area. This is the reason DSL is dead. Sure they can offer 384k now, but that's 3 years too late. I've been terrorizing customer service rep after customer service rep for years over this. My goal is for them to talk about me in the coffee break room. Eventually maybe a manager hears it and his 25 IQ brain might get the picture. AND YOU DEFEND THIS IDIOTIC COMPANY!!!!!! |

So you've been requesting this for a couple years and now when they have it you don't want it.... hmmm... don't see how that makes sense. Guess the "terrorizing customer rep's" sums up your way of thinking though, doesn't sound rational to me. |

 | Well, now Earthlink has cable modem service here for $41.95 even for non-cable TV subscribers. 2 years ago we didn't have cable modems period. The best broadband service is the one available first. |

 | Excellent point......... |

|
 | Yeah of course.........hehehe |
