you hit the nail on the head with the costs. As I read the article I could hear the thought process "No churn, don't cannablize our current (profitable) user base, status quo." Narrowband being around forever is more of a desire or hope on AOL's part to keep their job simple and profitable. Whether the market actually does is another story.

Another telling subplot here is the lack of urgency of a content provider to push broadband. That tells me there is no market for value-added content or content-on-demand services for the foreseeable future.
