Xstealth : I would like to add that if you would like a convenient and easy way of analyzing your system then you should go to 'PcPitstop.com' for a free online analysis of your computer. There you will get detailed info on whats going on with your system and solutions of how to take care of problems. The test will reveal everything thats running on your system and will let you know what things running in the background are important and whats not. You can run a full series of tests or specific tests, the choice is yours. Its a very helpful site and whats cool is that its all free. I would also advise you to get a program called 'BigFix', it will detect whats going on with your system automatically and alert you with solutions and fixes, it's an excellent program. Also, there is a way in 'XP Pro' to disable those processes running in the background, it can be found in the help options of XP under 'Services', forgot exactly how to get there but you can disable any process you want from there, you would just have to double-click on an item then select either 'stop' or 'disable'. Once Control Panel loads double click the icon that says System. Click on Hardware then Device Manager. Another thing you could do before you post your findings is go to Start+Run and type in CMD and the press enter. After chkdsk runs try defragging your hard drive.
--
Just my 2 bits.

gotcha3 : Hi to all from Canada. First of all I am very lucky to be able to write anything or even open up this great Forum!
I have Win XP Prof. AMD Duron 800 . 256 Ram. ( I hope this helps!)
The problem, over the last week the computer is going slower and slower. In other words if I click on a shortcut icon it might open up in a few seconds or 2 minutes or not at all! If I play a movie file (which is in the computer! the sound seems OK but the picture is jerky!
If I restart.it might be OK for a while and then slow down or it will NOT restart and I shut the computer down for a while, turn it on and sometimes it is all ok again!
I have watched the CPU usage: right now it keeps going from 0% to 3%! I will try and open a program, nothing happens (CD usage 0%) Suddenly the program opens (CD usage goes up to 100%) I hope this helps!
Because of this send you answer to my Email as well because of the problem I had much trouble getting onto this forum. Outlook Express seems to be much faster! Thanks very much! normanhoward@shaw.ca
