In the interest of helping future users(Zyxel 645)

In hopes of helping someone in the future using a Zyxel 645 ADSL Modem (Not a router version) with a different ISP than it was originally intended with a Netgear MR314 wireless router.
These are not step by step instructions, just misc. observances from my last week of dealing with these products.
(1)Firmware version in the Zyxel should not make that much difference, it is the config file that will really mess you up.
(2)Passwords for ftp/telnet could be "1234", "admin", "root" or "mspgzyx" for mindspring or "lamspkz" for speakeasy (no quotation marks)
(3)To upload/download firmware or config files in the modem see here: »Can I get a concise answer? (Zyxel 645)
(4)To make a Zyxel 645 work with a router such as a Netgear MR314, it will need to be in "bridge" mode. To accomplish this:
(a)In menu 1, set PPPoE bridge to "NO", I know this sounds backward (b) in menu 4 set encapsulation to "RFC 1483" and multiplexing to "LLC-based" (c)Set up the MR314 as the instructions state
(5)Power up in the following order: modem, router, computer
(6)The firmware/config for a 645M-11 should work in units that say "Prestige 645, ADSL Modem" instead of "645M"
(7)If the MR314 is showing that it was assigned an IP address on the WAN side (in the Management status window) but you still cannot access the web, check your routing tables, make sure that the default route points to your router

Thanks to all who helped me in the past few days get this stuff up and running, especially yoonix, javlinz and dsltek. Also thanks to everybody who posts their opinions, ideas, etc on these boards, you never know when one of them may help somebody out. And finally a hearty thanks to the owners/operators of broadbandreports.com!

MTWallet,

I found your post very informative, I am about to embark into an adventure setting up my Dad's DSL line on a non-PPPoE DSL provider with an 645M and a D-Link DI-614+.

I was wondering if you may have come across any other that may make my setup easier?

Thanks in advance.
