Rhythms status?

Has anyone who uses Phoenix via Rhythms been switched over yet or heard anything about when it's expected?

I'm on Rhythms in Boston, MA, and I haven't heard anything or received the Telocity hardware.

Nope. Nada.....zip zilch nothin not-a-thing. My Phonixdsl line is screeming...well, as much as you can expect from 144kbps, but I'm afraid of......bad stuff. I'm on the edge of my seat in Atlanta hoping for good things and prepared to be dissappointed and wondering when the pressure will be over....I fully expect to be disconnected at any second and have no IP and no instructions. I'll proly try DHCP when it goes dead, but if it doesnt work, I wont be one bit surprised. A buddy of mine got billed for his entire 6 or 7 month period at Phoenixdsl in one single pop, something like 400$, got rampant, went on a tech call spree, found no hope, got ticked off and disconnected. Now he's back on dialup. Telocity says they will serve him soon. I'm afraid the food may be cold by then....

I called yesterday and was told that they still have not received the database of customers from Rythms. Evidently, there are 900 Rythms customers that need to be transitioned....

Seems a bit high to me, but that's what they said.

I just got off the phone with Telocity's "migration center". Here is what I learned, or at least what was claimed:

1. I am not in their database for migration (yet).

2. The fact that I am not in the database means that Rhythms hasn't turned over my information yet -- not that my account has somehow been dropped on the floor. (Yeah, right.)

3. Telocity got a partial listing of PhoenixDSL customers using Rhythms on Wednesday 3/7 (the rep said "day before yesterday").

4. Telocity will have the rest of the database from Rhythms by next Friday.

5. I asked if Telocity couldn't just get the information from PhoenixDSL, since surely they had it. She said no, "because they are out of business". I guess I thought PhoenixDSL must at least have a skeleton crew keeping things going through this migration fiasco. My line, at least, has been reliable ever since installation.

The rep I spoke to seemed surprised when I told her Telocity's migration page hadn't been updated since our original letter in late December (or whenever it was -- I seem to recall receiving it quite some time after the printed date on the letter). She said she would forward on my suggestion that putting timely information about migration locations/dates/CLECs on that page would probably reduce the number of calls like mine.

I always wonder if people really do "forward on" suggestions like that.

Im told Telocity had the list right after the deal was signed. They are not being truthful on this matter. Im not sure why...

will the real reason please step forward?

So far, I've heard that some Rhythms people were being dropped with no explanation, others such as yourself that said that Telocity got the database right away, and yet others who said that Telocity hasn't gotten the entire database yet. I wonder why it's so difficult to get a straight answer out of these people.

I'm on a NPNTQ line right now, but I had to call to confirm that I was on the list to be migrated. They never made the call to me to get my credit card information. (Why is it that they had to get it in the first place? Was MegaPath not permitted to transfer this information to Telocity?)

That is a very good question! Have wondered about that myself, since late December.
Seems like either Rhythms or Telocity wants to pick and choose the easiest and most profitable lines to migrate Or one or the other is the most fouled up company around. Then again it could be both. Just by looking at their routing issues for the past two month.

Re: Rhythms status?

We have rhythms and been loosing connections lately, but not total disconnect, (YET). I hear that Rhythms will be the last to transfer.... time to get alternative connection for the BIG DROP waiting to happen....

I just called Telocity again, since they had previously indicated the Rhythms information would be received by last Friday.

If you call Telocity and get "Jeremy Kimmel", hang up and try for another rep. This guy is one of those gems who just makes things up.

Here is what I learned:

1. Telocity still doesn't have my information. Supposedly this is because they still don't have all the information from Rhythms. (i.e., I'm not the only one.)

2. Suppposedly, I should have received some sort of update from Telocity about the migration. I asked Jeremy how I could get this update if Telocity didn't have any record of my existence. He told me "that was another department", so I asked to talk to someone there. He put me on hold for a moment and came back to tell me that "that department doesn't exist -- it's part of your old provider, and they're out of business". (Read: he made the part about the other department up.)

I left my name and number to have a supervisor contact me within 24 hours. I'm not holding my breath.

This is turning into a journal or something...

I just called Rhythms again, since no one called me back as promised from my call last Tuesday.

•I'm in the database now -- they read me my address, phone number, and e-mail address, and confirmed my credit card number. The rep I talked to this time thought I had probably been there all along, but the previous people I talked to just couldn't find me. (He said when someone calls without an account number, it's essentially manual to search by last name, and I have a very common last name. Who knows...)

•I have an account number (which seems to be the same service ID number I had from PhoenixDSL and Rhythms before).

•I should be getting an e-mail within the next week confirming that my credit card was authorized and giving me a migration date.

•If I don't receive a modem in advance of my migration date, I should call Telocity tech support at 888-773-3349.

General facts learned:

  • Migrations occur every couple of weeks. It didn't sound like they are related to geography.
  • Credit card authorizations for migrations happen weekly. It's not clear why they don't happen more often.

Just called Telocity.
I'm finally in the database, and they had my CC info, so I know it was passed from Phoenix/Megapest. Now they have an email to reach me at, also.

I'm told that migration will take 7-10 days after CC authorization, meaning probably about 12 days.

Only problem is their inability to give me my new IP info so I can contact Network Solutions.

What a long time waiting.

When I contacted Telocity over a week ago they said they had NO e-mail addresses to contact us with and we were supposed to contact them with e-mail and CC info. Then it's a 10 day wait for credit check. After that I guess just how much other crap they have to work on as to whether they have time to switch us or not. But I heard there was to have been a Big switch a few weeks ago and I wonder if anyone from Rhythms was ever switched?
