 | yesyes I question the accuracy of this map. In Maine and New Hampshire there are many COs where I know there are a variety of DSL providers, and they don't show up on the map. For example, Maine has at least 20 COs with DSL, but the map shows far fewer.
This may come as a shock, but many DSL providers don't bother to register with DSL Reports. Turns out, DSL Reports is not the center of the Universe.
Reviewing the above, I realize it is not true. It is not that I question the accuracy of the map; I know it is wrong. |

I think theres a keyword you missed and its Think. |

| reply to yesyes Although not every ISP is registered, there are very few CLECs and Telcos to cover. (actually, fewer CLECs by the month). It only takes one ISP registration who resells a CLEC, to represent their COs .. not all ISPs. In other words, one correct Covad ISP partner listing is enough to include all of Covad.
For tiny CLECs, with few partners, then the map may not include them, but the "real" map, whatever that is, does not look much different to this.. |

 | reply to Dr.Watson I hate it when stupid people like that don't bother to read things. That guy needs to pay more attention to his post and carefully read the article before he makes an idiot of him self and makes a dumb post like he just did. |

You know, I think there are quite a few green dots in Maine -- they are just all compressed together and not so distinct. Can you name a specific dot/CO which should be green but is not? |

Re: yesyes Actually, I think DSLReports is at the center of the universe. Every point is at the center of the universe because the universe is unbounded. |

 | reply to Dr.Watson Yes, although it might be close, but this map does not show the exact numbers. It's just a rough estimate of what's out there. All of you anal retentives shouldn't discredit this map. Discredit yourself for being anal retentive. |
|
 | They did not say that the map was exactly right. They said "were we think there is a dsl co." You are right the map does not show the exact numbers. And that is what they meant when they said where we THINK.
Shut up you anal retentive ass hole |

And I'd suggest you grow up and THINK before posting. First, as stated, it's where they BELIEVE, from their research, where there are dsl enabled co's. Secondly,I believe you missed the point. The map, whether there are a few missing co's here, or a few extra co's green there, makes a VERY good macro representation of dsl deployment. Depending on the research being done, it's probably pretty good statistically. (Using your logic, I'm guessing you'd invalidate the entire U.S. Census if two or three people were missed in the count for Maine?) |

 | reply to panzer4 Even if the universe is unbounded (which I doubt) as long as it has finite mass, it has a center of mass. |
|
 | The finite and unbounded universe I was thinking of would be in the form of a hypersphere with approximately uniform distribution of mass on its surface. To anyone living on the surface of the hypersphere (like us), every point would appear to be at the center of the universe because you would see equal mass in all directions. I suppose you could equally well say there is no center of the universe in three-space, but for selfish reasons, I prefer my interpretation |

Reimann Sci-man Yes, a finite but unbounded super-sphere with Reimannian geometry - that's where I live.
But I'm not drawing a map. |
