Anon | What to do in Philly, PA? Aghrr stupid flashcom
I was paying 49.95 and i had Telesurfer 384/128 (i think) Also I have Speedstream 5250 SDSL modem (and as far as I understand a dedicated line because i had flashcom for over a year now)
My download/upload speeds were the same (capped at about 40kilobytes per sec)
And I don't know what to do, i don't want to pay $90 a month for speakeasy but 2 IPs and 2 emails would be good.
Covad looks like the choice but what speeds do they offer? Also I don't like changing ip crap . Can it be used on 2 computers (w/o NAT) at the same time? How much is it? because they don't give any info, just press continue and you will be switched to covad.net *AGHRR* Can i get 2nd email w/ covad?
Or maybe I should choose Speakeasy or some other thing? (also you have to pay $100 for a switch at speak easy) |

 | I know Covad.net has adsl 608/128 at 54.95, but they don't have static ips for adsl. You have to use the enternet 300 pppoe software. You get up to 5 emails and some webspace. |

The cost per month for the Telesurfer service (608k/128k) that you had with Flashcom is 54.95 with Covad.Net. This is possibly more than you were previously paying. I would encourage you to look into other providers to compare prices. It is Covad's goal to get you with whichever provider best meets your needs. I have attached a document that lists a few providers to assist in starting your search. We also provide our consumer service strictly with a dynamic IP allocation solution. As with most ISP's on the market Covad.Net has 1 year contracts. Covad.Net does have news groups for which I can provide more detail if you wish.
Most importantly, there is no penalty for you to cancel you line at this time. We want to make this as simple as possible to migrate or cancel your line. Please contact me if you have any other questions.
1 year contract? Ugh. |

If you go to their web page and click on "Speakeasy ISPswitch" they'll wave the normal $99 fee. They are one of the top rated ISP's here on dslreports. I'm thinking of going with them. |

Anon | umm.. i called speakeasy and they said that you have to get the exact same service as you had w/ flashcom and than you can switch (or similar) for example i had Telesurfer 384/128, and the ONLY service they're allowing me to get is Straight Up 384/128 up to 384/128 ADSL Waived Use your current hardware 59.95 2 POP Emails, 1 Shell (Linux!) Account, 4 Static IPs
from speakeasy site "It is critical that you correctly identify your present Covad service level, as the ISP switch process cannot change the underlying DSL technology. For example, if you currently have SDSL, you will need to choose from our SDSL packages. Once your DSL service is transitioned, you will then be able to upgrade your circuit within the package line you chose."
sux eh? |

Anon | umm.. but for extra $5 and little slower speeds you get 3 extra IPs, and a shell account (i think you can get upto 5 emails w/ Covad) and IPs are statick... hehe, i can't decide.. which one should i go for? also how long did the switch take from flashcom to covad and from flashcom to speakeasy |

| reply to Anon Both ISP's require a 1 year contract. Both give you a 30 day grace period (I think). Only difference I see is that Speakeasy has alot of (Mostly good) reviews and Covad.net has none that I've found. Oh yeah, Speakeasy is $5 less a month too. NEITHER ISP offers static IP's in their "El Cheapo" (Lowest price) service. [text was edited by author 2001-02-27 17:43:42]

 | reply to ron1501 Some note about COVAD.NET I contacted them and they (atleast in NYC) COVAD.NET DO NOT offer static IP to residential services. Static IP available to bussines and prices starts somewhere at $89. I am so damn used to static IP with Flashcom - It's just Ø problems ... |

 | Wth ? It was "It's just (ALT+0216= "0") problems " |
