The spell checker here is on auto & will highlight a misspelled word.
I agree with your evaluation of how things are setup. I don't mind having my profile shown to all. I just want the option to choose what is shown within that profile. I think others feel the same way. I have the option to change the email to a publicly known address. But would prefer not to have to go that route. As I prefer any ZoneLabs related email goto my personal account.

Well that needs looked at in my opinion. For reasons I mentioned above. I have a public profile here. But if users want to email me they have to do so without knowing the actual address. Then I choose whether to reply from that address. This type of option should be made available or at the very least a email address blocking option should be implemented. It's just a matter of privacy & courtesy. Shouldn't have to not be able to say nice things about yourself without compromising your privacy ( unless you wish to ).

Iggy,

It's all or none. That is, profile with email address showing, or no profile at all. The preferances can be customized, the Dell forum uses Lithium forum software, and they have a block for "public email address." (If you don't have a log-on for the Dell forum, you can't see the area I'm talking about.)

Well now CalamityJane has added an interesting comment to the mix. Has this been tested? I'll try with myself not logged in & see what results I get. All or nothing yuck. Options are what make the world go around & what sell ZAP & ZA+ software!!:D:D Should be the same for the ZoneLabs forum.

not logged on means you can't view profiles at all. I played with the forum before it went live, and tested that option.

If you click on my profile you will NOT see anything but the name.

However, if I click on my own profile I do see it.

It seems by default it sets things to "friends only" I haven't set any friends yet. So no 1 can see my email addy yet. Thus the reason you didn't see it.

Yep confirmed. As I said - I think - before I didn't have time to do much testing. This is a very busy time of year for me. Even though testing began around the 11th. I just didn't have the time to devote to it. The more I post here - the more behind I get with other things. None of the other users seem to have a public profile set. So I couldn't test the above theory properly.

I couldn't be more delighted. Maybe I will be able to get my problem ironed out that has been plaguing me since getting set up with my new puter, brand new, and trying to get ZA+ to do its thing and allow pinging for Line Monitoring. I have done everything to figure it out, and nothing has worked...including many kind suggestions from other users here. This couldn't be more timely. I just signed up and am waitinfor my e-mail confirmation. Hurray. Maybe the light will shine at the end of the tunnel yet.

Well, that was one of the most painless sign-ups/registrations I've encountered since DSLReports.

Looks like it's going to be a big help to a lot of folks.

Thanks for the Heads Up.

Under My Profile then Subscriptions tab you can set things up for email alerts. That should do it. Also under My Profile look under Preferences for this Automatic Subscription Options that should also be fo help.

I set that up last week and did get some notices when some of us were posting test messages. At some point, I stopped getting the email notices.

"Thanks to immediate feedback about the previous URL, here's the all-new, all-SHORTER URL to take you to the new ZoneAlarm User Community:
»www.zonelabs.com/community Enjoy!"

The old url still works though.

That's odd Marti. I was hoping it was gonna be an easy fix!!;);) Well we know were to ask for help on that though don't we?

Sorry IGGY...but it's a little too late for Zone Labs to start NOW after YEARS of offering a FREE product with absolutely NO support via forums, e-mail, telephone etc.

The ONLY support I EVER received for ZoneAlarm was here on DSLReports...not from Zone Labs.

I love ZoneAlarm 2.6.88 (ZAF 3.X is just a bad update to an otherwise excellent product i.e. System Resource usage, Unfriendly user interface, Uninstalling ease etc.)

I TRUST the members here at DSLReports with information regarding ZoneAlarm Free more than I would TRUST Zone Labs forums.

Sorry...but the lack of concern from Zone Labs kind of leaves a bitter taste...and dealing with ZAF 3.X messy uninstall (following verbatim instructions from the web site) leaves me frozen with ZAF 2.6.88 until ZA can revert back to a more simpler, solid, awesome working product as past products have ALWAYS been.

Nice troll. If you had any idea how much the user base for this program skyrocketed immediately after it's release, you would understand why ZL could only do so much. We're talking about millions within the first year, all wanting free help. You try it sometime.

Easy there Stonedonkey...

I was simply making my opinion voiced...AND...if you're going to put out a product, then HELL YEAH, you better back it up, otherwise you get a lot of BAD press. What company wants that?

I was expressing it's a little too little too late...obviously they could have done the "forum" thing a LONG time ago.

The product is a free product. Support is an added feature that most software companies ask you to pay for. With a lot of shareware products this is exactly what you pay for = the customer service. I don't know many companies that can provide support staff for a free product. The economics just aren't there. Support staff need paychecks & benefits that cost money. The online help area & ZA help file included in the software. Have always seemed pretty detailed to me. Compared to other software I've seen present & past.

As for resources issues etc. I think a look at threads in this forum will show that ZoneLabs has taken comments about such things seriously. Looking at the release history shows that they do in fact wish to improve upon the product »download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/i···#3.1.395

But users must keep in mind the pay products will most likely always get updated 1st. This is only logical.

"System Resource usage, Unfriendly user interface, Uninstalling ease etc."

The user interface in my opinion is far from hard to use. All your options are on the left hand side in bold letters. Click them to goto where you need to go. You also have the text explaining what the icon relates to. As long as you haven't turned this feature off. So maybe it's that fact that makes user not like the interface. The fact that it gives you plenty of information. Maybe some users see this as overkill. Is the interface new & different from previous versions = yes. But the old interface wouldn't have worked with the newer builds. And even if ZA doesn't have some of the options of the pay products - ZoneLabs has always had the same interface for it's consumer software products. Makes things easier that way. Uninstall has gotten much easier with the newer builds. Yes some users had issues going from 2.6 to the 3. builds. But I don't know of any users who didn't get things working in the end. I've seen less complaints of uninstall issues in the forums with the newer builds. But then again maybe I've just missed post. Resource issues were reported by some people when upgrading to the 3. builds. Not sure if this has been fully addressed for ZA users. But I know ZAP & ZA+ users have seen updates to resolve this. So I'm sure 1 of the newer builds of ZA most likely has a solution to this.

But even if people can fault ZoneLabs for none support of ZA. Does that mean a company shouldn't take steps to improve? A company shouldn't take steps to improve customer service & support? Remember that this company was 1 of the "little guys" & unknown just a few years back. Growing pains were to be expected. This company has taken a step to improve things. If done right I think they should be applauded for that. If done wrong bring them to task. Yes past reputation or performance will always be factors when choosing a product. But I don't truly feel this company has purposely not given support in the past. I also think maybe free users felt they should be getting more for free than they were. I'm not saying things have always been a bed of roses. But obviously improvements are trying to be made. Not sure how they can be faulted for that. The company wanted to do this right when they did it. That's why it took so long to see this. Now let's give them the chance to prove it was worth the wait.
I've seen other products reported here to have "horrible" support. So support complaints aren't just a ZoneLabs "issue". But I've not seen a lot of these companies take steps to resolve the "issue". This company seems to have done that. We'll all see how it turns out now won't we?

But that filter has to do it's thing & doesn't it use a proxy of sorts? So that could very well create the lag. I would go nuts if I used the new web filtering. I did find a few sites it should have blocked that it didn't & vice versa. The difference between the time I posted in the above post & the "clocked" time is because I left it open for a bit. Not submitting right away. Multi tasking does that to me at times.

I kind of figured that one out thanks IGGY.
I think the new Zonelabs forum will be good for all user. Including us Team Zder's.

But i still think a lot of users will search out help in places like »www.dslreports.com and other security forums like »www.wilderssecurity.com and »www.gladiator-antivirus.com

Just my two cents worth.

Yup - users like me So I have a question. Anyone having a problem using the "User Search"? I was trying to add John2g to my friends list and it says not found:
Find Users
No results found for 'John2g'.
No results found for 'john2g'.

But he is registered and posted to the ZA forum as john2g

I was using the instructions on "Help" which said this is how to do it.

Any ideas?
