Re: Steve Gibson - All Bent out of Shape?? I wonder how many of these posts were generated by an undergrowth of egotistical irc freaks who needed to say something just because they could!! Damn Steve G. you have a great site and have helped me many times, I own a small isp in Melbourne Australia and grc.com is the first place we send any of our new clients that question web security. As for Steve's Ego well show me a bloke that doesn't have ego when he has produced something that works (I got 3 kids to prove the ego theory [hehe])!!
As for Ben well done for having a go no one gets it write the first time it takes the fun out of the invention. If at first we don't succeed try try again...
I have read through most the posts within this forum and I cant remember many if any of the opinions that were made (other than Steve or Ben) coming from anyone who has done half the job that these two guys have done so my question is to you all how much is your opinion worth without the guidance of experience. A lot of pissNwind is what we down under call it.
Thanks Steve and thanks Ben |

Very amusing, rocket. Very amusing indeed. Welcome to the forum.
Granted, I believe that one should listen to the expert and not to those who know naught. But in this case, the "experts" will not have any products to "sell" if they don't ask for commentary from the community-at-large. |

Well, it's funny that you can know everyone who posted in this thread and know what they have or have not done just by reading most of the posts in this thread. So I guess I have to congratulate you for your vast knowledge and insight. However I agree that most people here perhaps are not geniuses but what exactly is your point? Does this mean that they don't have any common sense? said by rocket_: so my question is to you all how much is your opinion worth without the guidance of experience. I'd say as much as yours. So depending on what you think either a lot or as much as pissNwind.
Now some words from the host/moderator in me: This forum is no place for personal attacks. We have managed to be civilized for the most part of this thread so I strongly suggest that we keep it that way. In other words you are a guest. Zhen-Xjell:Wildcatboy My statement was not an attack or degradation of anyones person, simply a request to remember were we all stand in this discussion for we are not the creators or beneficiaries of the said applications and therefore a lot of the comments that were made did and do not hold much if any gratification/ exhortation for the 2 parties involved. ___________________________________________________________ Now some words from the host/moderator in me: This forum is no place for personal attacks. For your consideration:
A case of swelled head it is. It's more like a joke to me. It's not Brady's fault that some people are idiots. ---
Once you discredit yourself like this those ideas are no longer valuable and we no longer need to make that occasional trip to your site and you no longer need to worry about us idiots---
So Mr. Gibson just in case you end up reading this thread I like the contributions that you've made but now you are just pissing me off. ___________________________________________________________
Your own words can come back to haunt you.
As for being new I have watched this site for some time and have only felt the need to join after being disheartened by the forum content that was either slamming one or the other of these to obviously intelligent and entrepreneurial men.
Sorry to offend. thank you Zhen for the welcome |

Re: Steve Gibson - All Bent out of Shape?? Granted what you say is true both sections of the software community are required for consistancy. To refine my statement a bit more a lot of the comments were being made without a factual referance to the software of either party but moreso based on the last great defimation that was displayed at one of the partys expense.

2kmaroThinkPremium,ExMod 1 BC join:2000-07-11 ColossalCave | rocket_ - as you continue to participate in this little community, I believe you'll find that many of the people who have responded in this thread actually DO participate in the world of programming in a much greater degree than you seem to be aware of.
While most of them (perhaps none of them) have a product marketed publicly as Clearxxx or those distributed by GRC, a great many of them develop software professionally, are involved in their company's IT/IS departments and/or are involved in network security for the company they work for. You might be very surprised to find out the 'value' of the opinions that have been expressed in this thread OTHER than those from Mr. Brady and Mr. Gibson.
In any event, and whether or not any of them have any interest in the development side of the industry - trust me, as a developer with some 20+ years of writing software, I've found that THE most important source of input for getting a program to function properly, in all aspects of the term, is the END USER. And everyone who participated in this thread, INCLUDING our special guests, is one of those!! |

Re: Zhen-Xjell:WildcatboyYes rocket_ I'm familiar with those quotes. I think I read them on Mr. Gibson's page. He quoted them to prove one important thing that we are all proud of and that is when we are provided with complete facts we can make good judgments and that's what you missed in the whole thing. If you really respect Mr. Gibson and Mr. Brady you better follow up with their comments on our both threads and find out what they think of DSLR and the security forum as a whole.
Finally this thread seems to have reached its conclusion. For those of you who may be coming here by clicking on the link on GRC's page, you may not be aware that there is another thread about this issue with complete participation of both Mr. Gibson and Mr. Brady Here and it seems that they have finally arrived to a point which can be called productive and respectful dialogue. Read all about it there and feel free to participate and please keep it within the subject.
Thank you all for being such good sports. Cheers. -- You can catch the Devil, but you can't hold him long. |
