 | Yes they R out of buss. Tho, official deadline march 16(or 20) I think. I requested switch to SpeakEasy - got new network info in couple days. I got 2 PC connected and in about couple hours after i changed settings on one of the PC another one (on Flashcom settings) connection died. Dunno, if other users still got Flashcom connection.
BTW: I had 384/128 connection ( more like 320/320 in real) they seems making users keep speed settings. And unfortunately so far connection seems less stable then with flashcom- I am getting now 100-320/160-320. But SpeakEasy, almost, only reliable company that offers static IP.
Despite all reviews of flashcom it was great service for me. |

| reply to Anon Still up here on LI. I have not yet decided who I will switch to. Speakeasy, in New York, is looking worse and worse the more I read. I currently have an offer from an ISP in PA but they want either a one year or two year contract. I cannot understand why I should have a contract now that the equipment and line are paid off. I have one other ISP I have considered calling but their plan is $59.95/mo. |

Anon | Thank you for the information. I most likely try Cable. I like DSL but too much problems. I also heard that Dsl prices are going up.

I can agree that DSL has alot of hassles and the price is going up. However, I would expect cable to follow suit in the not too distant future. |

| I have just initiated a switch to Westnet in Rye, NY. The price is $59.95 (same a Speakeasy).
Speakeasy has been of neglible help in trying to get pre-sales questions answered. I have emailed them relatively simple questions and a day or two later I get back a standard header telling me to switch NOW. The answers I get do not really answer my questions. The latest round, which pushed me over the edge, was a query about their $49.95/mo service (which is basically what I have from Flashcom sans a static IP). I got back a response telling me I could only switch to their $59.95 package and that my line speed would be 384/128 (I currently have 608/128). Once they stuck me with the $59.95 package, I became a free agent because that is the price I was seeing elsewhere for Covad service. If the $49.95 service was an option and there was some reasonable insurance that their NYC problems would be fixed quickly, I would have entertained a switch.
I have been using Westnet for a while now in some consulting I do. My personal domain and vanity email address are routed through a system colocated there. The performance on their network has been great so it was a simple decision between paying them $59.95 or paying Speakeasy. I wish it could have been $49.95 but it just wasn't going to happen as long as I have Covad as the carrier. Plus I get a static IP! |

Anon | OK. A friend waited 4 months for Earthlink to hook him up. But this was in NYC. They gave him 2 months free for the wait. Ray |

So how is stability with Westnet?
I was happy with my (384/128) Flashcom connection - It was constant ~320/320 with virtually 0% paketLoss. Now on SpeakEasy I gettin anywhere between 24-320/56-310 with occasionally ALOT of paketLoss. Dunno about you but I don't need 1.5 Mbps which tend to slows to 50Kbps - gimme stable 320 - I'll be happy. |

| I'm not yet switched here at home so I cannot report on stability from here. However, I have had no problems with their network for the business stuff since the equipment I take care of was moved there in October. I do not know their exact network configuration but I know they have redundant lines from different carriers. |

| My line died promptly at around 6:35PM on March 16th. About 3 hours later it came back with the new IP and ISP (I did not switch to Speakeasy). However, during the downtime Covad apparently made some line changes because now throughput is terrible. Even though I am synched at 608K, my download speed is around 140K. I am still trying to get confirmation but it appears my line was switched from Fastpath to Interleave mode. I had been experiencing alot of "correctable" line errors and suddenly they are gone. No other explanation. |
