Re: Proof that the X2 floats (spy photo) I received my disconnection confirmation via email today and the relevant part is here:
"Per your request, we have terminated your service.
You will not be charged a cancellation fee of any kind. If you already received the DIRECTV DSL gateway or if you receive it soon, you do not need to return it."
I will print this out so that any FedEx driver or my bank (where I used my VISA/debit card for my checking account) can plainly see the date and status of my account with DTV. |

 | reply to rwhubert DirecTV started shipping out the newly manufactured X3 modem only weeks before they anouced their shutdown.
It is actually internally shielded, is much smaller and has a reset button. |
|
 | reply to ass_kicker_9 I actually emailed dtv techsupport to ask about flashing the chip, and one of their reps called back to say that tech-specs would be released after the company was completely shut down. He indicated that they'd be found on usenet, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that that will come true. (So wait till then to toss y'alls in your pools....) |

| reply to andrew-r Looking at the internals, I'd say that P1 was the BDM (Background Debug Port) for the Motorola processor. With a memory map and the BDM hardware (available from P&E Micro (pemicro.com) amongst others) getting at the flash memory would be quite simple. What to do with the thing afterwards is the question. |

 | reply to DocDoo WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH THE OLD GATE WAYS? »What's everyone going to do with their gateways? |
|
 | reply to DocDoo I wish I still had mine. But DTV took it. A Fedex guy just showed up one day last month and said he had a pickup order from DirecTV DSL. DTV never even told me the guy was coming. Jerks. |

Re: Shooting gateways? said by Mad_dog0:
I haven't figured out what I'm going to do with mine, but the thought has occurred to me that it would make a good target to test my new Winchester model 1894 lever action .44 magnum rifle on (same rifle used by Chuck Conners in The Rifleman and John Wayne in several movies). Shooting a 300 grain soft flat nose bullet into the X2 should prove interesting. I can see the headlines now, "Disgruntled Postal employee kills helpless X2"
If anybody wants to ship one or more to me (I'm a former DTV tech,) I'd enjoy taking a bunch of former employees out to shoot them. I'll video it, and post it on the net somewhere. I'd have a couple pistols, a shotgun or two, and a Calico to shoot them with. I've already shot many computers, and a couple monitors. (Monitors are pretty good shields when shot from the front.) |
