Be prepared to lose your line!!!!!

Just spoke to a rep at Telocity to see if they have their data base updated yet. Was informed that they do have it. But was also told that I was not on it and that they would not be transferring my line to Telocity! He also went on to say that there are about 500 to 700 other Phoenixdsl customers that would not be transferred. And that the lines would be on for another week or two before being disconnected. So even if you received the original notice, they may not switch you over. You may want to call and confirm that you are in fact on the list.
And as with this entire ordeal, you will not get a second notice warning you to find an alternate ISP. You will just come home to a dead line! Gotta love these folks and the way they do things!!

*)($#!!! It's unbelievable, ain't it.

I'll repeat here something I said to someone at Phoenix last May, "I've never had such a hard time in my life trying to spend money!"

Curious ... !

Did they tell you the reason that they decided not to transfer you? Is the market in your area being turned down, or are they having trouble with the phone company, or is it an unprofitable area?

The rather unenthusiastic rep gave no reason. Just kept stating that their were some lines that they would not be transferring. Did ask several times for a specific reason. But never got a solid answer. Was finally told of the approximate number of lines that would be dropped.
Called DSLi to enquire about an ISP switch. They checked with Rhythms and told me that it should not be a problem. But of course it will cost more through them.
Might try calling again tomorrow. See if I can get someone on the phone with a bit more insight. Was a little too upset this afternoon to keep dealing with them. Have just about had enough of Phoenixdsl/MegaPath and Telocity. The biggest thing that bothers me is they collected the $200.00 setup fee just last month. Now looks like I have to pay it again!

You're right apparently.. I just called them and they said I'm not in the database, and that I can't be transfered anymore. Apparently I was supposed to call in and tell them to add me. Looks like I'll have to go with Optimum Online. Unless I can switch to Evolving Edge with no transfer fee, and if they'll match 50/month.

Oh well, the static IP was nice while it lasted.. On the other hand, OO will cost me only 30/month, which is a good thing. I will miss the static IP though.

This is such a crock of crap!! I don't know about you...but I have called these ***holes every other week, since early January. All I was ever told was to call back in a week or two. NEVER did they ever say that I needed to tell them to add me to their list. Why in Gods name would we have been calling all of these times if we didn't want to be added to the list?
Like you I have been checking with other providers. DSLi is checking into the possibility of an ISP switch with Rhythms. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Do want to keep my static IP also.

Actually, maybe I should order a new line with them. Do you think that's a good idea? I really don't like the restrictions of cable, plus a 2 year contract!!

For instance,

SUBSCRIBER MAY NOT RUN A SERVER IN CONNECTION WITH THE OPTIMUM ONLINE SERVICE, NOR MAY SUBSCRIBER PROVIDE NETWORK SERVICES TO OTHERS VIA THE OPTIMUM ONLINE SERVICE.

That's just terrible.

Don't know. My first thought, after being treated like this, is no way in hell! But then I have to think of what other options that you (we) have.

What I will do in the morning. After calming down again. Is to call Telocity and try to speak to someone other than the level one rep. Then also send a polite e-mail to the CEO and whoever else that I can find to bug. And then see where that gets me. In the mean time I will continue to explore other options. Such as DSLi. While keeping fingers crossed and hoping for the best outcome.

Sometimes I have to wonder why we put up with nonsense like this. No other business could get away with treating their customers the way the computer industry does, as a whole.

Finally got worried enough from the activity and no notification that I emailed them to find out the scoop. Here was their response:

You have just been added to our database. It will be 7 to 10 business days before you are given a migration date. Check back with us in one week to see if you have a migration date.

Gives me lots of confidence in these guys! If they can't even migrate a database...

Wolf: Do you think talking to a manager will achieve anything? I'm running out of choices now. It's either Cable or order a new line. Frankly, Cable doesn't sound very friendly to me. Let me know if you get anything out of talking to a manager.. Then again, after looking at the reviews I definitely don't want to install a new line with them. If I have to go with Cable then that's how it'll have to be.

I agree.. The treatment we get with DSL is terrible. But unfortunately I don't have many choices at the moment. Seems that if you want good service you have to shell out the big bucks and go with Business Class DSL. I'll probably do that eventually. I don't make great use of my static IP at the moment even though it's nice to have. Later on I think I will need it though.

dahotvet: who did you send the email to? From what I was told by the rep, that they stopped the database transfer at the end of Feb. Go figure.. Maybe I just haven't been transfered yet. I'm not going to do anything until the line goes dead. Time will tell.

Same thing happened to me - I've got northpoint service, and I will not be migrated over as I am not in their database (yet I received a letter to my address with their letterhead notifying me of the switch). They don't offer northpoint service in my area for new customers - the only available service is 640/90 ADSL, so I'm SOL. I'm guessing the two things are not mutually exclusive. It would be interesting to see if the people who supposedly are not in their DB are able to get the same service they had with Phoenix as a new customer in their area. The rep I originally talked to seemed uninterested in my problem, so I requested a callback from a supervisor or manager. While they were apologetic, they were equally unhelpful in regards to getting anything done.

I'm currently in the midst of an ISP switch to DSLi, but I'm getting kind of worried as I signed up with them last Friday, and haven't heard anything back yet. I called up yesterday to confirm that the switch was in progress - they said it was, but couldn't really give me a timeframe. I don't know how long my line will be active, and if Northpoint cuts it off before the switch, I'm guessing I'll have to pay for a new install. The DSLi service is $50/month, and I should be able to get faster service. I currently have 416k SDSL, but that is not because of distance, but rather because I signed up when Phoenix had two different SDSL speed for two different prices. Phoenix was going to charge me $130 (one time charge) to uncap the speed after they changed their packages, but DSLi said they'd do it at no charge. DSLi does charge a $50 ISP switch fee, but the salesperson is giving me the first month free to offset that.

Brian,
I'm about in the same boat. Ordered switch on Monday, Tom Martin promised I must be transferred in 24 hours, nothing happening. But my switch charge is $99 (?). Left hand doesn't know what right hand does do? My "projected delivery date" is 04/05 in DSLi tracking system and I was unable to get any real time frame from them yet.

My guess is that because of Northpoint auction nobody really cares to switch the lines while nobody knows who is going to buy Northpoint. If I'm right, we have to wait till 03/20 or a bit later...

Alex

Well called Telocity again, spoke with another very disinterested person. This time a supervisor. Would never do business with them again!

Called DSLi, made an ISP switch in about 30 minutes. No setup charge, no switch charge. Do get a static IP. Projected cut over is 4-08-01. Hope the Phoenixdsl line lasts that long. People seemed friendly and helpful. Called their TS to see how the hold time was. Got through to a live person in about 5 minutes. They e-mailed a contract within about 5 minutes. So now to see how this all will play out.

Hope that you find something, that you feel fits your needs. I know how frustrating this entire ordeal has been for everyone.

Best of luck to you

So we now have three different charges for doing an ISP switch! Spoke with a sales rep by the name of Eddie. Setup the switch and told me that there would be no setup charge or Switch fee. So only pay the first month of service. Once installed. Wonder why the big variation in charges??

Just got off the phone with Telocity. They said I'm not in the database yet, but they don't have the entire Rhythms database yet. They should have the entire database by next Friday, but I can check back daily to see if my data has shown up yet.

Also called DSLi about an ISP switch - they told me that they do not accept Rhythms customers. I checked availability on their web page, and it said my CO is not wired for DSL (funny, what have I been getting for the past 9 months?). A few days ago I checked and their web page said that I could be switched. Anybody know what's going on here?

I just got off the phone with a Rep at Telocity (Andy). He sounded completely incompetent so I would double check this information....

He said that they are finished switching NP customers. Rhythms customers that live in LA, NY, Washington DC, and Philadelphia will be migrated, the other 1200 or so will not be.

I live right outside the DC line and that didn't matter, it's those cities only, not their metro areas.

Sigh, and here we were hoping that Telocity would Get It Right after the horrible ordeal that appeared to be the Flashcom migration.

I just did the same thing. Tom also. Said it should take 24-48 hours. I can't just sit and watch my circuit die and then wait 2 months for a new one to be installed. He said there's a 99 dollar transfer fee, but the first month is free. Which essentially means your transfer charge is 50 dollars and you're paying for the first month.

Well I certainly hope I get switched before my line dies, otherwise I'll be pretty pissed.

This certainly is weird. You have no switch fee at all? What's also weird is that you have a contract?? Tom told me there's no contract if you switch. But oh well, I don't care if I have to pay a transfer fee (which comes out to 50 dollars since my first month is free) as long as my line is alive.

The only guess I have about the different transfer fees is maybe they're different depending on your location? Telocity has different prices for different locations, so this might be something similar.

Are any of you who are switching to DSLi connected through Rhythms? DSLi told me today that they do not accept Rhythms ISP switches. If I lose my Phoenix line, the only option I seem to have is a business DSL line.
