Re: Be prepared to lose your line!!!!!

This certainly is weird. You have no switch fee at all? What's also weird is that you have a contract?? Tom told me there's no contract if you switch. But oh well, I don't care if I have to pay a transfer fee (which comes out to 50 dollars since my first month is free) as long as my line is alive.
This is what they set me up for. Might be the difference in the type of service. Ie SDSL, ADSL or IDSL. Or as you stated, it could be the location or maybe a combination of the two.
Like you, I do hope that Phoenix will leave the line on until it all gets sorted out. As far as contracts go. It doesn't really matter to me. As long as service is good. We had contracts with Phoenix and as we all saw, they meant nothing.

Also called DSLi about an ISP switch - they told me that they do not accept Rhythms customers. I checked availability on their web page, and it said my CO is not wired for DSL (funny, what have I been getting for the past 9 months?). A few days ago I checked and their web page said that I could be switched. Anybody know what's going on here?

Mike Wu
When I called. They at first said that I would be unable to get service here. But after repeating that I already had service with Phoenixdsl and a Rhythms line. He then said he would check the Rhythms database. After a couple of minutes he came back and had my information. Evidently they have several databases. Theirs, that is a bit out of date, and then the CLEC's. I would try again. And as I do. Out of desperation . Be persistant. But polite. Also be sure to let them know that you are with a dying ISP. That seemed to perk him up a bit and get things moving better.

mikewu99: I have Northpoint. I don't know anything about Rhythms sorry.

Wolf: looks like we have totally different lines. So maybe you're right, it probably is the combination of the two.

Resistance, is futile.

The guy at DSLi never checked any database when I called, never asked my name, address, or anything, just my line provider. As soon as I said "Rhythms" he said that they could not help me. I'll try again, maybe get somebody who will at least explain why they won't take me.

I called Telocity on Thursday March 7th and was told that they were still downloading Rhythms information. The woman I spoke to told me to call back on Monday the 12th when they should have all Rhythms info and be better able to answer questions re: my status.

Curioser and curioser.

Just talked to DSLi again. They said that generally with Rhythms it's easier just to order a new line, apparently Rhythms is resisting ISP switches. The DSLi rep said that out of 300 requests for Rhythms switches, only one (the first one) went through. (He said a Northpoint switch can go through in 24 hrs.)

BUT

We discovered that I actually have an SDSL line, not ADSL like I ordered from Phoenix. Hmm, I guess that explains why my upload speed test results were so high! Thought it was a glitch in the speed test. DSLi will have their provisioning people investigate getting an SDSL line switched, since a new line would be ADSL and cost me a new modem.

They're supposed to call me back tomorrow. This will probably be a good test of their customer service if they actually call back on time.

Pretty embarrassing, since I used to design DSL chips for a living. I didn't even know what line code I've been running.

P.S. - They also offered a $99 switch with the first month free.

To Any Northpoint IDSL Subscribers

Anybody still still on Phoenix over Northpoint with an IDSL connection? If so, please indicate any info that has been provided to you and where you are located. Thanks.

I just got off the phone with a Rep at Telocity (Andy).

He said that they are finished switching NP customers. Rhythms customers that live in LA, NY, Washington DC, and Philadelphia will be migrated, the other 1200 or so will not be.

I live right outside the DC line and that didn't matter, it's those cities only, not their metro areas.
I guess things change from week to week.
After seeing Detriot area subs mention that they've been switched, I called to see if I was in the DB yet...sure enough, I was there, they just needed to get my e-mail address so they could keep me informed of the switch over....already had my credit card number.

Just got an e-mail from Amy, at the Phoenixdsl helpdesk. She had gotten my line up and running again. A small glitch on Rhythms end.
But also partially answered a question for me. So this will add further confusion to this already confusing mess.

"Wolf,

From my understanding...ALL of the lines will be transferred over to
Telocity, unless of course you cancel. I tried to figure out when yours will
happen, but I don't have that information yet."
