Albert EinsteinOT; but it's a slow day. Albert Einstein, when asked to describe radio, replied: "You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat." |

Bet I've seen two dozen WISP sites with that quote on the main page. |

It sure is catchy. And adds a level of credibility in the eyes of the average person (ie. new customer). Besides that; who hasn't pulled a cat's tail? |

That's where Rob Flickenger, who wrote "Building Community Wireless Networks", got his inspiration for his NoCat project. Jim |

I was discussing a broadband connection for a new home near mine with its builder when he corrected me, claiming that the cable his guys had pulled throughout the home was "5CAT, not CAT5" |

CAT5 is just an abreviation for Category 5. It's not a 'type' of wire but rather the way the wires are overlapped at the connector. There is also cat 3, 4, etc |

I have one model that states I should use a "cat of 9 tails". What kind of cable is that? |

Yes, it does. It covers the wire size, how the conductors are twisted, how the pairs are twisted, how 'loose' they fit in the jacket, and a lot more. Jim |
