1200 RHYTHMS TO SWITCH ON THURSDAY 3/15

AND THE OTHER 700 WILL SWITCH LATER......
This is the news I just received from Denise at Telocity. Luckily I called to check my account; Telocity received NO e-mail addresses from Phoenix and therefore no-one is receiving transfer notification. The Rhythms transfer will happen in one big chunk on Thursday, March 15. There will be 700 others to be transferred after that. Transfers will occur all over the country, not in specific areas. Some customers who are too far from the central office will not transfer because the range is too far, or they are located in cities that Telocity doesn't network in. Those who are not transferred will remain with Mega-Path, they are not being dropped into oblivion.

Whew! This is it...the big moment we have all been waiting for! Now that the date is known you all have a few days to prepare. I was also told that peeps who didn't respond to the initial letter were dropped.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

Where did you get this information? I called Telocity and they did not have me in their database, so they tell me to speak to sales and I would have to place a new order. I decide to call megapath to find out why I was not transferred yet, the guy I spoke with said that they sent all names to telocity and that I was not even in their database. So I call sales dept. in Telocity and they tell me that they can't service my area and that my line would just go dead once switch is done.It would be nice if megapath honored our contract with Phoenix and kept us online for the remainder of the contract, but they don't have anymore information on us as they have supposedly sent it all to Telocity.

Well, I hope that's correct but I wasn't notified by Phoenix or MegaDeath or Rhythms. I was just cutoff without notice or reason.

Waiting for my NP line...

Has anyone else heard this?
All I could get is another one of their "brighter stars". "No we don't have you in our database, no you will not be transferred, too bad". Nothing about MegaPath or anything else

This is weird. My Telocity Order Status page tonight says my Gateway should arrive within ~3 days, which would be the 15th.

It says step #2 (outside line) is completed. Maybe Rhythms or Verizon are letting NP transfer the Rhythms leased line that's already there (now dead, sort of).

I have to call them to find out what's really going on. I just don't feel like sitting on hold tonight.

It's funny, if any of you were on the old Phoenix web-based forum everyone wanted an order status page but this Telocity page is just as confusing as not knowing.

This has nothing to do, of course, with those of you going through a normal Phoenix -> Telocity transfer but I'm bored tonight so I thought I'd post.

Actually the entire ordeal has been confusing! Kind of gave up on all of it and placed an order with DSLi. Arr sent me the name of someone to talk to at PhoenixDSL. But have not been able to reach him at his desk. Going to try that again in the morning. Otherwise will hope for the DSLi setup. They say that Rhythms won't allow them to do an ISP switch. But will provision the line for them. Doesn't make any sense to me. Can't see how they make any money. Dropping a line after 4 month and re-installing another one. Oh well.
Good luck.

That sucks, that's another month's wait?

When I called they told me that wouldn't be a problem. Then, I've seen other conflicting conflicting information posted about them... the first month free stuff, for example, and the quote of $49/month. I was told $49 on the phone but the email they sent me said $59.

I still haven't called Telocity but I think NP took over the Rhythms line. I still connect to something but I can't ping my old gateway anymore from the Cisco (though I can from dial-up). That would explain how I could jump from "We're processing your order" to almost done in 4 days.

Meantime, I found a local (actually, bought by a regional but still has a local office) who can get me 384/384 for the same $49 if Telocity sucks so I at least have another option. (For some odd reason 768/768 is $174/month from the same company.)

Here's what DSLi sent me.

Ouch!!! Damn, $800.00 to get the line set back up and a router. That's gotta hurt.
When I spoke to DSLi. They said I could continue to use my Copper Mountain. So wouldn't need a new one. Will only be charged $99.00 for setup fee. And I was grumbling about that.

But one thing about DSLi. Most of the reviews, on them have been very positive. So maybe it will be worth it in the long run. From what I have read, here. Telocity seems to have more than their share of problems. So the extra $10.00 per month may well be worth it.

That's why I called them, but $800 is out of the question. That would bring the monthly cost to around $127 for the first year. I could get MegaPath's SOHO service for that.

At this point I'm just sort of burntout on DSL. I want it. I need it. I will have it, but getting it and keeping it is becoming too much work. At one point I seriously considered calling Verizon (but I'm not that burntout yet).

Plus, if Teleocity does suck, the NP line will be in place so another move won't be so costly if it becomes necessary.

Have felt the same way. Just have to wonder if it is really worth all of the aggravation and expense.
Wish that the FCC would force the Telco's to start playing by the rules. And the CLEC's and ISP's would get their acts together. And yes, I realize that this is all still in it's infancy. But certain business models have to be observed in order to succeed. Regardless of the industry.
Well that was just my $.02 worth. I feel a bit better now.

Hopefully with investment monies tightening up things will change for the better, somewhat... introducing at least some stability into the marketplace.

As long as this country lacks a real network strategy we'll be behind, especailly if a free-for-all get-rich-quick type of atmosphere continues.

Re: 1200 RHYTHMS TO SWITCH ON THURSDAY 3/15

Just got off the phone with Telocity. FINALLY I am in their database. No cutover date yet, but at least I still exist. Hopefully the fact that I am in their database means I'm not going to be dropped.

Has anyone been formally notified that they are switching this Thursday?

For comparison, most of we Phoenix folks with Northpoint didn't get any formal notice when we were switched either. The clues to our switch were (a) a big box sitting on our doorsteps when we got home the day of the switch and (b) our sync lights remaining green but the line going dead later that evening. Other than our names and PON numbers, it isn't clear that a lot of info in the Phoenix databases got transferred (and if you've ever tried to integrate different databases you'd understand why). For example, they had no email address for me and only my wife's office phone number. So they would have had trouble contacting me even if they tried. But other than sending the gateway there was no evidence they tried.

I just got my brick and notification today. I'm with Northpoint however, yes there are still some of us left. I'm not to enthusiastic about it. My phoenix/Northpoint connection has been rock solid from the beginning and looking at the recent Telocity posts and reviews, chances don't look good that it will continue that way.

This is a copy of the email they sent me:

Telocity has scheduled your service migration date!

In order to make this change, your DSL Provider must redirect your DSL line to Telocity. This maintenance will occur sometime between 8pm and 4am during the evening of this cutover. You can continue to use your current ISP
service until this migration night.

We have shipped the Telocity VelocityPort(TM) gateway Airborne 2nd day. Your gateway may arrive prior to this cutover date. If this is the case, you will need to wait until the cutover is complete, before installing your new gateway. However, if for some reason your gateway arrives after this cutover date, please install your gateway as soon as possible. You will no longer be able to use your
existing DSL modem, therefore, please remove it to avoid technical difficulties when installing the Telocity gateway.

With the below information, you can access your account. Log on to »www.telocity.com. At the bottom of the page is the order status link. Click order status, enter your Username and Password, and follow the steps to track your gateway shipment.

Additionally, you can set up your email account. Log on to your Member Site at
»home.telocity.com/pages/account.html and click the
appropriate link for instructions on setting up your email.

Cutover Date: Mar 15 2001 12:00AM

Cutover Time: 8pm-4am

Username: XXXXXXXXXXXXX

Password: XXXXXXX

Telocity Order ID: XXXXXXX

DSL Telephone Number: XXXXXXXXXX

------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have additional questions prior to your cutover date, please call the migration support team at 1-888-833-5556.

While the gateway has been designed with simplicity in mind, after the cutover, you may speak to a technical support representative by calling 1-888-833-5556. After listening to the initial message, follow the prompt to the technical support center. When installing the Telocity gateway, when prompted, you will need to input to the above referenced DSL Telephone Number.

Thank you,

(Just to reiterate for those reading this, this is not a normal Phoenix to Telocity transfer. I had to place a fresh order to get a NP line installed to replace the departing Rhythms.)

For some odd reason I got straight thru to a Telocity Order Stat. Rep. He says the status DB is wrong and that I'm at step #2 (DSL Line Ordered), not step #4 (IW). So now we're back to three weeks instead of three days. At least now I can use the phone all day and not worry about missing their call.

Truly do hate to hear about your service delay. But why does this not surprise me? Nothing, with DSL, seems to ever go the way that we are led to believe it will.
And why do any of these companies even bother with status pages? Have yet to find one that is even remotely accurate.

Getting switched over so fast seemed to be too good to be true. This just puts me back on a more normal schedule.

The reasons database stuff suck is that management still controls the purse strings and they never want to adequately fund them (or just about anything else) and they don't understand them either. A lot of IT staff goes after the least they need for just this reason. It's a self-propogating corporate virus.

Hell, I don't understand why Verizon can't just switch my dead line to NP either. If business made sense, we wouldn't have businessmen!
