Re: 1200 RHYTHMS TO SWITCH ON THURSDAY 3/15 i wish they would say i couldnt be switched to Telocity the service TOTALLY sucks
probably 20% downtime on 416 SDSL compared to 0 downtime for 8 months on phoenix
horrible pings, all in the 100+ range as compared to the sub10ms i had to all the texas servers with Phoenix
during "peak" times i get about 25% packet loss, so its completely useless for gaming now.
ALSO, for some reason, the telocity gateway had a contract that was for 12 months on it, not a month to month basis. Im guessing it was because i have SDSL instead of ADSL, but im really wishing i had called them and told them to buzz off because i cannot imagine a worse isp at this point in time. |

The way I understood it is all of their accounts are on a month to month basis, regardless as to whether or not you had sdsl or adsl. Though it appears by checking out the Telocity forum, that canceling and getting them to stop charging your credit card can be a big chore. |

My Latest News Yesterday, NorthPoint emailed me my new line install date of 3/29.
I noticed this morning that my Cisco is no longer synched to anything at the switching station over the Rhythms' line. It still was this weekend however. No one, btw, has contacted me about that line. As far as I know it just stays there. I'll see if the Verizon guys know anything about it next week. I don't imagine they will though.
The Telocity status page has so far gone from Special Order Status to Step 4 (IW) to Step 1 (Your order is being processed) to Step 2 (Waiting for line) which is where I actually am at this time. |

| For those interested, I just called Rhythms and they say it's up to the Phone company what to do with a leftover line like mine. I was told they CAN reuse it for NP. Which makes me wonder why everyone keeps telling me I need a new line (maybe they don't really know) and what the $400 install fee that DSLi said I'd have to pay was really all about. In any event, if Verizon does show next week I'm going to ask them to use the existing line if they can. I really don't need a 7th wire hanging off the house. I told Telocity I had the line and IW but who knows what exactly is in their DB and what they told NP and what NP told Verizon. This is all just so dumb! I hope quality of service-wise it works out as well as Phoenix did. At least NP is easier to spell than Rhythms.
P.S: Rhythms said they DID send a packet to all ISPs about which CO's were being 'suspended' and when so I guess someone at Phoenix didn't tell the people who should know. I was told the ISPs were supposed to send out emails to the residential customers about the closing so that they could make other arrangements. [text was edited by author 2001-03-21 17:45:13] |
