cyberonic dns server(s)?

Wow. I noticed the the link light was green on the Cyberonic supplied Speedstream router.

So of course I connected to it. I got a dhcp IP address but on the first attempt, I could not get out onto the internet. After powercycling the Speedstream, I can reach the internet!

HOWEVER, I still have the DNS servers hard coded in my network config which (I think) were supplied by DTV. They seemed to be flakey this morning even when I was connected via DTV which prompted me to try the Cyberonic circuit.

(Yes they are on separate lines so I have two dsl circuits coming into my crib!)

Anyway, over the Cyberonic connection the DNS seems even worse: "www.google.com cannot be found" makes the net nearly worthless.

Does anyone know what DNS servers Cyberonic customers can/should use? I am in Chicago.

Thank you for any suggestions or advice you may offer.

You can use UUNET's (wcom)at:
198.6.1.1
198.6.1.2
198.6.1.3
198.6.1.4

Suburbanite here from the west side... I use 198.6.1.5 and 4.2.49.2 as DNS servers for Cyberonic. Maybe they'll work for you.

Any idea if those servers are close to the West coast? Cyberonic set me up with 198.6.1.5 and 198.6.1.4. Half the time I'm being routed all over Canada to connect down the street.

Cyberonic gave me the same as you 98.6.1.5 and 198.6.1.4, and I am in Mountain View. You can try 4.17.179.2 and
4.2.49.2. This is what my router was serving up via DHCP before they changed it to static IP and turned off the DHCP server.

Looks like .3 and .4 are west coast (San Jose, Portland), .1 is east coast (Wash, DC?) and .2 is DFW, Texas.

I'm from San Francisco and Cyberonic set me up with 198.6.1.5 and 198.6.1.4 for DNS server. Can anybody recommend a different DNS server to use for better connection and speed?

I've tried 4.17.179.2 / 4.2.49.2
and 198.6.1.5 / 198.6.1.4

Both sets given to me by Cyberonic had me retrying most of my pages, not getting in until the first or second retry.

I'm in Northern Virginia and I put just the single DNS of 198.6.1.1 in my (wireless) router and all is flying now.

Quite happy with Cyberonic, though I missed the deal.

You all might want to continue Cyberonic only posts over at the Cyberonic Forum »CYBERONIC INTERNET COMMUNICATIONS INC
where there are currently over 400 post, and more ISP specific information.

I'll second these settings. I've been up for about an hour now. Nice speeds! Speed test added to test archive. I wasn't having any DNS problems but I found that I could knock one hop (.4 to .3) and five hops (.142 to .146) off the DNS server settings they gave me resulting in a possibly slight improvement.

I found some other UUNET DNS servers. I don't know where they are but the pings aren't that great from Chicago. Maybe they are better elsewhere.

198.6.1.65 - auth00.ns.uu.net
198.6.1.81 - auth01.ns.uu.net
198.6.1.82 - auth02.ns.uu.net
198.6.1.83 - auth03.ns.uu.net
195.129.12.82 - auth200.ns.uu.net
195.129.12.74 - auth210.ns.uu.net
137.39.1.3 - ns.uu.net

Hey guys, I am using

# dialcache060.ns.uu.net Boston Worldcom DNS 20 ms
nameserver 198.6.1.6

I am getting 18-20 ms ping times to this DNS server. It is here in Boston, so thats why. For anyone out of the Boston POP, this is the DNS server to use.

I switched over everything here to use that as my primary DNS.

I second 198.6.1.6 from the boston area. I get 15ms response. My secondary DNS server is setup to point to 198.6.1.122 (appears to be in NY) with 29ms response.
