A J 121 posted : No neither BT nor BTO restrict any ports used by P2P apps at the present, But both can do so due to the way their contracts are written. They would have to tell their customers about these changes first (or they would break the T&C themselves)

BT's T&C say:

"BT may temporarily suspend the use of the Service if the Customer uses the Service in a way that BT thinks could cause detrimental performance of the Service, provided to you or any other customer"

The above statement gives BT the right to suspend you for any reason they see fit.

eg. If you use P2P BT can say that your hogging of the bandwidth is detrimental to the performance of the service for other users.
So lliam2, I am sorry to say that by using BTbroadband as you ISP you are agreeing to the T&C and these give BT the right to suspend your service for much less than the 1G download limit

lliam2 posted : Yes they do
If you use Kazaa etc you will notice that people uploading from you will get extremely poor uploads it may start as 25 then the speed will fall to 1 or 2 and very commonly 0.7kps

As for the other topic of 1 gig download this is not in your contract and it would be quite easy to avoid any payment and remind B.T that they have breached your contractual agreement therefore allowing you to go with another ISP and not be bound to them for one year term

It would be very rare to get speeds of 50-60 on Kazaa unless you timed it perfectly and Kazza would downgrade this speed depending on your participation level

It does matter about upload speeds on P2P if your ISP is throttling them as B.T does then anyone who cannot upload from you may decide you will not be allowed to upload from them and cut you off even though it is not your fault so it is not just about download speeds

I have checked this out and if I do not use P2P then my B.T speeds are very impressive with P2P they are about 50%
and that is not just P2P sites although these are the ones they target most
In agreement with others if P2P is your option I would not go with B.T
