Team Discovery TSC Setup Guide

This guide will show how to join Team Discovery TSC on a Windows based system. TSC will run on Mac OS X, Solaris or Linux in addition to Windows (98/2000/NT/ME/XP). For instructions on how to install TSC on other platforms, see this page.

To learn what TSC is all about, please see this faq.

The following guide will detail the steps of joining Team Discovery TSC on a Windows machine:

INSTALLATION
• First head to the TSC Downloads Page. Choose your operating system and the download will begin. For non-Windows users, detailed instructions how to to install the clients are given as well.

• Save the download to a convenient location so that you can easily access the installer. Double click on the installer for the setup process to begin.

•After completion of the install, TSC will start up and the following registration screen will appear. Be sure to enter your real email address - TSC will not spam you.

•The TSC client will then need to access the internet and download candidates to process. This may take several minutes if you are on a slow connection.

•Once candidates are downloaded, the TSC client will begin to process the work. To tweak the UI for optimal crunching performance, follow these steps. For detailed instructions as to the significance of each aspect of the UI, see this.

•After you tweak your client, it should look like this:

Click thumbnail for full version

•Now click the "X" in the upper right corner for the program to minimize to the system tray.

REGISTRATION
•Now it is time to take care of the registration for the client. If you are a new TSC member, go to this page to create a new account. If you are an existing member, see this.

  • On that page you will see a text box to enter the "Node ID." This can be found in the upper right hand corner of the client.

  • Type that ID exactly as displayed into the text box.
  • For the user name, type in your DSLR/BBR site username for convenience unless you have a compelling reason not to use that name.
  • Next type in the same email address that you entered right after installing the client.
  • Choose your password next
  • Now it is time to join Team Discovery. Log into your TSC account on the TSC website by going here and then to this page to join Team Discovery.

You should see a screen like the following:

All you need to do is click "Join" and you will then see a confirmation screen that you successfully joined Team Discovery. If you are switching to Team Discovery from another team, please see this.

  • You are now an official member of Team Discovery!

  • The next step is to add the node that you created by installing the client to your statistics profile. This can be done by going to your Member Homepage and choosing "Add Node" at the bottom.

Clicking add node will take you to a page that will list any nodes the you have not added to your statistics profile yet. This must be done for each client registration so that statistics can be kept track of for each machine. You should see something like this:

Click "Add" to add the node to your profile so that it can keep track of statistics. You will then receive a confirmation that the node was successfully added.
  • That's pretty much it. All that is left is some finishing work to really become a part of the TD family.

Be sure to post in the Team Discovery forum to let us know that you are with us and to truly have a lot of fun with the team. We are the best DC team!

The TSC FAQ contains some very useful information. Here are the most popular entries that often come up:
  • How do I register additional clients? (#3463)
  • Will this program interfere with others? (#3468)
  • Is there a way to minimize the program on startup? (#3836)
  • Can I run TSC with a dual processor machine? (#3474)
  • What if I have to re-install? (#3475)

    DSpy
DSpy is a very popular TSC add on that adds a lot of features to tracking the progress of the local progress of the client and also the progress of clients on a network. For detailed information, see this.

Please note that only one DC Application can be run at a time. That means you cannot run UD and TSC at one time or any other combination.

    Statistics
Statistics can be found on http://team-discovery.net/. Stats are updated daily at 3:30 AM EST (subject to change).
