just a little more....
in win2k the Simple Network Mgmt Protocol agent service is a subcomponent of the Management and Monitoring Tools component. It is not installed by default and must be intentionally installed using the Add/Remove Windows Components routine in the Add/Remove Programs cpl of the Control Panel.
Win2k Help explains: "To access the information that the SNMP agent service provides, you need at least one SNMP management system software application. The SNMP service supports but does not currently include SNMP management software, SNMP software must be running on the host which acts as the management system."
Bottom line: if you ain't on a managed network, disable it.
