Re: Dell TrueMobile 1150 Firmware v8.72 Updater

Actually agere.com has the 8.72 updater now, so you don't have to trick your cards into thinking they're orinoco.

Good to know. We are not actually tricking the cards thinking they are Orinoco. They are in fact Orinoco but their PnP ID is different. We were tricking the upgrade software designed for Orinoco PnP ID cards think that it was designed to upgrade other OEM PnP ID cards.

can you post a link to the official drivers then? It works without any modifications right?

Scan the beginning few posts for a link to Agere drivers. Again they are not official in terms of Dell.

Agere sites the drivers are reference drivers...

OK, yes I worded my post wrong.
I don't have a dell truemobile (hermes chipset) card, but I do know that as long as I have the drivers for my hermes chipset cards, the agere 8.72 firmware updater will recognize my hermes chipset cards and update their firmware.
I've updated my orinoco silvers with it, my ydi short cards, and my ydi ruby cards.

I don't think I got your wrong. Yes, Agere drivers do not care about PnP ID so they are usable on any hermes chipset.

But, they are not offical in the sense that you will not get support from Dell for those drivers if your card is dell branded (unless Dell says otherwise).

Otherwise, they are as official as it could be as the modified upgrader and essentially from firmware point of view 8.72 firmware should be the same upgraded either way. Yes, having latest drivers is a plus.

We tried that here in our lab with a few Inspiron 8200's and it went well till we noticed mtu size mismatches were causing the DSL speedstream some angst with some foreign sites. In the end we went back to the latest posted Dell drivers and all was well again in XP Pro.

It works but some funny stuff is going on....

hi. i'm new to this forum and my name is pinkerton girl but i think my name got cut off.

i will PAY for help. i just want to get this to work.

please help anyone... i just got this card and i go to drexel. i had a dlink 650 and that worked fine but the range was horrible.

this is what i did...

1) install the dell installation 1500 disc.
2) updated the firmware on my dell 1150 card to 8.72
3) registered my card with drexel university dragonfly network under "dell" card (i tried orinoco too)
4) i am running winXP and it says it's connected to the dragonfly network. i get full bars... says i'm sending packets but not receiving them.
5) i can't connect to anything. it says "page not available" when i try to browse the internet and go chat on AIM.

is this a driver issue? the firmware seems to have updated the card. please help. thank you.

Is Drexel running WEP? You might have to use their WEP keys. Do you have DHCP enabled? Sometimes its the easy things that can fix the problems.

Hi guys, there seem to be some very knowledgeable people on this thread so I hope someone can help!
I've recently bought a Dell TrueMobile 1150 MiniPCI card but am having no luck persuading it to work. My Laptop is a Generic thing built I beleive by MITAC. I've installed the card under XP & it seems to identify it OK but I never get any sort of connection to my WAP. Client Manager says all is OK. I think the problem is in the Laptop as the wireless LED has never lit& all I ever get is a message saying Wireless connection unavailable. How do I at least establish if the card is functioning?
Any advice would be hugely appreciated as I'm going round & round in crazy circles.....

for Dell Truemobile 1150 802.11b PC Card, is there any differences in term of features with the real Orinoco Gold?

does it uses external antenna? offers enhanced security, with a 128-bit key, using RC4 encryption?

Same physical card, slightly different firmware.
