Try Dell drivers. I am using Dell drivers here. Beyond that I have Windows 2000. You are trying to do this on XP I think.

I think it has to be an xp problem I have tried everything else, I've tried just about every 7.x driver I can get my hand on etc. No 2k machines with pcmcia slots at the moment (in 2 weeks after I move I will have a pcmcia slot in my pc but thats another story)

I dunno. Same experience that I had last year with 8.10 firmware updater and 1150 PCMCIA card under Win2k. This card just doesn't want to be updated! If it wasn't for rebuilding my server I'd take apart my RG-1000 and try it. No joy for the Dell PCMCIA card unless you put it into an Orinoco/Proxim AP (or use Agere multibrand updater/drivers/client).

Sorry guys. I cannot help much more on PCMCIA since I only use the mini-PCI one.

Theoretically, the PCMCIA update should work with the patch but probably firmware updater is also checking some other stuff beyond PnP ID that was fixed to get it working with miniPCI.

One last shot... Can you tell me the following values from your registry on your system (when using Dell Drivers)

Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE 10318}

Look at each subkey under this. Please tell me the "ComponentId" and "MatchingDeviceID" values when "DriverDesc" or "VendorDescription" values are "TrueMobile 1150 PC Card".

For example it should look something like (from my mini-PCI)

ComponentID: pcmcia\dell-truemobile_1150_series_pc_card-c043
MatchingDeviceID: pcmcia\dell-truemobile_1150_series_pc_card-c043

There may be multiple ones. So scan through all subkeys.

Also Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002 BE10318}

Look at {each subkey}\Connection under this. Please tell me the "PnPInstanceID" when Name is "TrueMobile".

It should be something like (this one is for mini-PCI):

PCMCIA\DELL-TRUEMOBILE_1150_SERIES_PC_CARD-C043\1

Again, there may be multiple ones. Please scan through other subkeys.

Also, can you attach the version screen snaphot for your dell PCMCIA card as well from the client utility.

For some reason the forum posting inserts space before 10318. Please remove spaces embedded in the registry key path between { and }
