Man, I have a bad feeling I'm going to be SERIOUSLY wishing the Echostar/DTV Merger had gone thru in a few years. This is beginning to sound like a bad joke.

Murdoch buys Echostar. SBC Buys DirecTV.

So, then the choices for TV are between 1) Sucks, 2) Sucks, and 3) Sucks

Great. Wahoo. Joy. NOT.

I am certainly glad that it didn't. With all the recent outages and other weird stuff going on with DISH I am glad I have a choice (of not choosing them).

Yeah, well, trust me, SBC will wreck DTV. As for Dish, you don't own one, so it seems strange that you can comment on outages and other things Dish related.

As a Dish subscriber, I've seen nothing "weird" and experienced zero outages, glitches, or any problems at all. For years now.

I'm beginning to think YOU don't have a DISH. There were outages recently, and I believe they were even discussed on a Charlie Chat. Take a look at the link below:

Looks like Dish Network is having another outtage. I am chatting with a few retailers who are getting calls from customers saying 110 is out again.

Anyone having a problem?

What has more outtages? Cable TV or Dish Network? Whats going on?

Glitch makes Dish dark for thousands
Uplink equipment sends out signal that cuts service

By Steve Caulk, Rocky Mountain News
November 9, 2002

Thousands of Dish Network customers lost their service Thursday morning after equipment at an uplink center malfunctioned, the company said.

The equipment sent an "incorrect" command to owners of some model 301 receivers, the low-end set-top box provided by Dish Network parent EchoStar Communications of Littleton, said spokesman Marc Lumpkin.

That's why I never noticed any outages-they all involve their low end 301 IRD which I do not own. Oh well, still beats DirecTV's "your smartcard has expired-please call 800-xxx-xxxx" message every couple of years due to their easy to hack conditional access scheme.

Huh? They usually send you new smartcards before the current one expires. And who says DISH hasn't been hacked? DISH has already been hacked. The only reason more people (particularly in Canada) hack DirecTV is because the equipment is easier to get, is of better quality and the programming and Pay Per view is MUCH better.

I also take it you didn't read the numerous complaints on DBSTalk about the "high end" PVR 721. I am also sure you didn't read the endless posts about DISH users being dissatisfied thet DISH PVR's don't have name based recording (which makes TiVo superior).

I suppose you're happy with your poor PQ (that looks like RealVideo), mono "muzak" channels, $5 downgrade fees and spam from DISH retailers.

Why is it that anytime you post anything concerning DN your posts are filled with statements that are filled with flat-out lies? Don't you realize that due to your previous posts that your credibility has been seriously diminished? I'm now convinced that you're a DirecTV dealer just trying to sell more product. Ask any ISF certified technician which one has better picture quality-DTV's picture looks looks like someone turned the sharpness and SVM all of the way up, to conpensate for the ultra high compression. Whereas DN's picture is more more true to the source material. But if your home theater experience consists of an RCA 19" Colortrak then I guess you'll never notice DTV's picture inferiority. How come you didn't bring up that in addition to those mono music channels, there are 31 CD quality music channels that sound just great through my Denon AVR 5803 receiver? How is the pay-per-view better if they both show the same movies? You're complaining about a $5.00 downgrade fee, LOL-what do you do for a living that $5.00 is that big of a deal?

I've had DirecTV for nine years now. I've never seen that message.

The company I work for used to sell/install it-subs would call in due to them being missed during the "smartcard changeout" periods.

If you're calling me a liar, then you have to also call all the DISH fanatics over at DBSTalk liars too.

No, I fail to realize that, because I post only the facts.

I wish. I could really use the extra cash.

You mean Dish's picture is blurrier and looks like 28K realvideo in comparison...

Well personally I have a 46 inch HDTV, but I guess all those people at AVSForum who have DirecTV and are all liars too, huh?

Maybe because all of the 36 channels on DirecTV are in stereo? Dude, you need to get over to DBSTalk pronto to find out from the dish fanatics over there how crappy Muzak is compared to music choice.

quote:
How is the pay-per-view better if they both show the same movies?
Because DirecTV has more channels, with more viewing times and more movies.

And yet you same idiots who get DISH complain that cable is so expensive becaus it's $5 more. What a hypocrite.
