 | [News] Sacramento price increase I cancelled my cable TV service in December and was informed by ATT that my broadband service would go up from $45 to $50 if I do not subscribe to Cable TV. A $5 increase is reasonable.
I just received my bill and my broadband service went up to $63 before taxes!!! I refuse to pay a 37% price increase so I cancelled my broadband service. Their excuse was that after the Comcast merger, ATT no longer provides broadband service, it is all handled by Comcast now.
I refuse to let big corporations rape consumers so I am voting with my wallet. I just hope that DSL is available at my house. I will go back to using a 56k modem before letting ATT/Comcast screw me. |

Many people do not watch TV and we should not be penalized for it. |

 | I agree that's crap raising your Broadband price because you drop cable TV. Luckily my price has stayed at $45.95 and I have a leased modem. I thought that was extra but I guess not.
ATTbGone, if you're on that map for fiber that would be great although maybe a little expensive. I'm nowhere near those little blue areas however. And don't use SureWest DSL they are sooo expensive. If you have PacBell for your telephone you may be able to use them instead.
Good luck! |

 | Just got the price increase. They called and said they would charge me extra if I do not sign up for cable TV.
I'm thinking about Cyberonic DSL.

 | BTW, I called the Sacremento Metro Cable Commission about the price increase. They only negotiated price control on TV packages greater than basic cable. They did take my name and number down as a reference to my complaint and said they might be able to do something about this in the future, so it wouldn't hurt if people called to complain about the price increase.

 | reply to ATTbGone I just got my ADSL from Frontier/Citizens Communications up and running in Laguna West (Elk Grove) for $50/mth. I'll return the ATT/Comcast cable modem on Monday. The only problem I had with Frontier is they could not tell me if DSL was available - you have to place an order then the engineers tell you in 7 to 10 days if it will work. Frontier DSL uses PPPoA and my old Linksys befsr41w router could only handle PPPoE, so check your hardware before going ADSL. |
