Jenbolt join:2003-02-11 Pennington, NJ | DirecTV doorstops on Ebay Hey - I just saw some DirecTV modems for sale on Ebay. Now, I don't know much at all about DSL, but I thought you couldn't use the things for another network, so why would they sell them? (Although, after reading through the boards, I like the idea of exploding it.) But you don't have to return it, the following was on DirecTV's Customer FAQ, updated January 29, 2002: =========================================== Q: Do I need to return the gateway?
A: It is not necessary to return the gateway and you will not be charged any fee for a non-returned gateway. As we are ceasing operations, we will not require these gateways to be returned. However, if you choose to return the gateway, we cannot reimburse you for any shipping/handling fees.
Q. Now that DIRECTV Broadband is closing, can I get the administrative password for the gateway?
A. With the closure of our operations, the DIRECTV DSL gateway becomes your personal property and you may keep it or dispose of it as you see fit. There is no need to return your gateway to DIRECTV Broadband. However, the technology associated with the development of the gateway, including the gateway password, remains proprietary. Consequently, we will not provide the gateway password.
================================================ So, at least you CAN blow it up if you like. Which I'm now thinking about doing, since my service was activated on December 11, after waiting for weeks!! I've got Verizon now, and it seems ok.
Ah well . . . |
