SpensergigThreadkiller SupremePremium,MVM join:2000-03-26 Bradenton, FL | An Interesting Turn of Events today Today is Sunday. Late yesterday, I lost contact with the phoenix mail server. I can't reach phoenix at all using nslookup or ping, and can't send outbound mail through their server for my personal domain.
Yet my line is still up, my personal domain mail still arrives, my web server is accessible.
Did they shut down and forget to turn off some lights? Naturally, Telocity hasn't been able to find me in their database when I've called, and they aren't open today.
Anyone have any facts to explain the situation? |

 | I was switched almost 3 weeks ago. A week later the phoenix mail server tossed me in the trash |

Interestingly, while I was typing this, the name servers and mail server became pingable again. The mail server is reachable, though the test messages I sent seem to have gone to the bitbucket in the sky.
I guess we have another few days of grace.
Did Amy come in to reset the servers? If so, you're one hell of a good person. |

 | reply to Spensergig I still have Phoenix, in other words have not been involved with the migration process yet.
No DSL connection all morning in NYC. |

| reply to Spensergig I'm still doing okay here, across town from you. However, I'm a Northpoint line, and Telocity has confirmed that I am on the migration list. However, a week and a half to two weeks ago they were unable to tell me when the next migration in this area would be occurring. Others are getting conflicting information. Does this surprise anyone? (It seems that Telocity learned almost nothing from the abysmal Flashcom migration.) -- =C=

I suspect and hope that something failed, and that Phoenix TS caught it while at home and actually came in to fix it.
Despite all the nasty comments I've seen here, I've yet to run into a bad person there. My only problem has been in reaching them. |

 | reply to Spensergig I did an ISP switch from Phoenix to another NP partner (Everyone's Internet in Houston) back in January, as soon as the grim prospect of being "migrated" to Telocity was apparent.
Oddly enough, my Phoenix mail account is still active (I check it for incoming) even today, although I see that the server is unreachable from time to time.
So long as whoever buys NP keeps my line alive, things are pretty sweet right now, even if it's only at 208K SDSL. Later this year I should also have a choice between RoadRunner and fast DSL via a new Project Pronto remote DSLAM (nothing "pronto" about it, however), just 1000' away.

 | reply to Spensergig I'm in the Philadelphia area, with Phoenix/Northpoint sDSL service @ 416/416, and although I got a call for migration from Telocity, I demurred and told them that I want to think about it before switching. They told me that I had about two weeks to make up my mind... i.e., yesterday, tops.
I went through similar off/on problems yesterday with the email server being down and the DNS not working, but it seems to be running okay for the time being. It's weird being on the very edge of possibly losing the connection without having made a decision. Telocity may be my only hope for keeping DSL here... so far everyone else either has astronomical pricing or are refusing to accept new business (!?) on an ISP switch.
Can anyone recommend a good NorthPoint partner in the Philly area? |
