[Connection] More ATTBI (Comcrap) tech support hell

This is what I got after pinging a few addresses for the tech guy. My connection is almost unusable and this started a week ago, before that it was great. except for the usual attbi crap. This is pasted from the online chat session with a tech.

T-Phillip S says, Those results are well within the acceptable range for this network. I am also getting good results when pinging the cable modem.
T-Phillip S says, Remote monitoring indicates signal levels to and from the cable modem have been normal for the last week.
You say, ok
You say, my dload tests are about 850k it used to be 1.5mbps
T-Phillip S says, At this time I do not see anything to indicate a problem on the network which would slow your connection or cause connection loss.
You say, then why do other people on your service have the same problem?
T-Phillip S says, 850 kbps downstream is above average.
T-Phillip S says, Is there anything else I can help you with today?
You say, it used to be 1.5mbps 8 days ago? doesn't that seem wierd?
T-Phillip S says, No. It does not seem weird.

Re: [Connection] More ATTBI (Comcrap) tech support

When you ping web sites, what type of pings are you getting? Are your pings over 200? The script readers techs don't consider anything under 200 a problem. Post some ping results so we can see how bad they are.

Tracert's and pathping outputs would help your case better.

It's slow in Kent too, but not all the time?!?

Questions:
----------
- Which computer & OS?
- Are you behind a Router/Firewall?
- Post PINGs & TRACE ROUTEs
- Is there Spyware?
- Have you TWEAKED?
- When did your speeds drop?
- Is it slow all the time & everywhere you surf?

more info please

Winxp pro, I use a router, my pings are good, I just lose connection every 20 minutes or so now. no spyware, I haven't tweaked, everything started happening 1 1/2 weeks ago when att went to Comcast, Nothing has changed on my end, I know several people in my area who have the same problem. The thing is, ATT(comcast) wont admit they have a problem, there tech support is a total joke, all they tell me to do is "powercycle" my modem. Of course I have done that 10,000 times. I feel sorry for the tech people because Im sure they know somthing is up because of the # of calls they get, but they have no power to tell anyone in a position who might be able to fix this. I truly think there is no one at Comcast who actually knows how to fix there network problems. And if they do know how to fix it, im sure there is a corporate finance manager who won't give them the funds to purchase the equipment needed to resolve this issue. Sorry for the long rant, I have had AT&T cable internet service sence they went by the name @home. I am one of the rare people who have had very few problems until now. I am out of the range for DSL, and I really need the internet for school and buisness, I think Comcast knows this, & they know I don't have a choice. If I did I would have been gone a long time ago..And if there were more competition they would try to fix the problems we are having.

Take not if your modem has sync when you lose your connection (as you state you do 20 times per day), then contact support letting them know what time ranges the modem temporarily loses connection.

Also, make sure you don't have too much drain on one circuit. My house has horrid wiring, and it was actually my refrigerator starting that was knocking me offline, just through the power circuits.

It was fine at first, but I guess it took it's toll on the modem.

What kind of modem and router do you have? I have seen alot of problems with the RCA 245 modems. Its usually the power supply or a conflict with any wireless router. The only other thing Ive seen cause this are cable connectors or bad cable itself.

My modem doesn't lose sync. I don't have cable TV. There is 1 cable wire from the street to my cable modem with no splitter. The modem and router are not important, since it all worked fine 10 days ago. Do you people work for ATT? why can't you look at all the problems posted here and at AT&T's forum and admit they are the ones with the problem. BTW my cable modem is a Surfboard 3100 with a Linksys RP614 router.

We are trying to help you. We do not work for AT&T and we have no affiliations with them. We do have experience with AT&T/Comcast and thats what we are trying to share with you. The power problems are quite valid as the RCA modem is notoious for having a loose power cable seat. The slightest bump of the table it was could cause the thing to reset. We need ping test to verify latency and a couple trace routes would help as well.

Why dont you ping yahoo and attbi and post your results in this thread. Posting a trace route would also help us determine where the problem in your line is as well. Do a trace route to attbi and yahoo and maybe another popular site would help as well.

Without this information we cannot tell you how to proceed with resolving this issue.
