Re: Dell TrueMobile 1150 Firmware v8.72 Updater Yeah thanks DrTCP! I appreciate the time you took to IM me about fixing it up for my other rebranded cards - and now I have been able to make it work on my IBM Wireless card and my Toshiba mini-pci card!!
Thanks again DrTCP! |

Actually thanks to you for letting me know that independent versions for MINI-PCI and PCMCIA would work. |
|
 | What hex editor are you using? |

DrTCPYours trulyPremium,ExMod 1999-04 join:1999-11-09 Round Rock, TX | Simple, look for PnP ID of Dell (say mini-PCI is DELL-TRUEMOBILE_1150_SERIES_PC_CARD-C043) in the firmware file and replace it with PnP ID of the card you want to update followed by a NULL byte. In Original updater several PnP ID are seperated by 3 NULL bytes but doing so was not very successful for DELL. |

 | Cool Dr, I'll try it tonight on my Alvarion cards!! |
|
 | When you get it to work on the alvarion, please post what you did, I can't get it to work on that one, I was successful on a dell, but not the alvarion. |
|

| From the opening post in this thread, the one upon which the catchy title is based: "A year ago someone at Dell forums found a way to hack the firmware update package for version 8.10 to work on Dell. Recently Dell has changed the forum names but I found the link again.
[Update (2/19/03): The 8.10 firmware updater referenced below does not work with PCMCIA card. There is a fixed 8.10 version later in the thread]
»delltalk.us.dell.com/supportforums/boa..[?]
In this thread there is a link to patched firmware updater to upgrade to version 8.10.
I'm going out on a limb here, but I'd say that clicking on those links might be a good jumping off point. Worth a shot maybe. -- Metaphors mixed while you wait |

Dr, you're the best, I didn't do this sooner because I have been too busy. It took some tinkering but it worked. Using a hex editor I pasted in the pnp id as you said replacing the Dell's string in the pcmcia file. This left 2 chars of the original Dell string standing which I replaced with Null chars, it worked perfectly after this.
Thanks for your help and research!! -- The difference between foresight and hindsight is only a matter of when you bother to think things through. |

Well, I had already updated the file link in the first thread with working one so you didn't need to do it on your own but it must be learning experience for you... |

 | reply to DrTCP We tried that here in our lab with a few Inspiron 8200's and it went well till we noticed mtu size mismatches were causing the DSL speedstream some angst with some foreign sites. In the end we went back to the latest posted Dell drivers and all was well again in XP Pro.
It works but some funny stuff is going on.... |
