 | Got my rate increase letter today Please be advised that effective with your March 2003 bill the monthly rates for AT&T Broadband Internet service will change as follows:
Owned Modem Customers AT&T Broadband Internet (with Cable TV service) $42.95 (no change) AT&T Broadband Internet (without Cable TV service) $52.95 (new price)
Leased Modem Customers AT&T Broadband Internet (with Cable TV service) $45.95 (no change) AT&T Broadband Internet (without Cable TV service) $55.95 (new price)
I called and canceled my service. I have no television, don't need and don't want one. Internet service is not worth $52.95+tax to me. This is the second substantial price increase in less than 8 months. Either these guys aren't making money at the current rates, or else they're complete idiots raising prices like this during an economic recession.
Incidentally, the phone rep offered me the increased speed connection at the same (+$10) price for 6 months, plus offered me some deals on digital cable, which like I say, I need like a hole in the head. I told the rep that the only way I'd stay on is if they didn't increase my monthly rate. Apparently that wasn't an option.

 | Look at it from me point of view. I have cable with them and i dont think its fair that i have cable and you dont but we both pay the same price for internet service. Its not to me or any of the others who have both. |

Well, it's your lucky day then. You're now getting a discount! Did you notice your monthly bill just got lower? No? Hmmm... |

 | reply to JJJohnson My co-worker got that a few days ago,he got the same letter. The way he kept his current price is he called and told them he wanted to cancel service and when they asked him why he said "I was offerd Dsl by SBC for much less" after a few minutes of waiting they told him they would keep his cable at the price it was at now.
Depending on the "competition" in your area you could of probably kept your service if you have various competitors trying to get your service. |

I won't be getting DSL either. $55 per month after taxes may sound reasonable, but it's $660 dollars per year. Very simply, it's to the point where Internet access is not worth that much to me. Where's your threshold? Say they raise rates $10 across the board six months from now, then another $5 six months later, then... If you want to pay this kind of money for Internet access, that's your business, but I'm now an ex-customer.
