Re: $10 a month increase starting march 10th Yea, T-1 is 1.5 Mbps / 1.5 Mbps, you pay for 99.5% uptime everymonth (you get money for every hour down), 24 / 7 support, and they will litterally send a tech out of his bed to fix your line.
1.5 Gbps is basically half a OC-48, which would run, at the cheapeast price, $45,000 from a crappy carrier, and only in specific building, it's usually in the $60,000+ for 1.5 Gbps..

 | reply to sactownie Ok guys Att is now Comcast be very aware they will try and screw you. I signed up for a year of service with ATT in november. The deal Started fine. I signed up for 46.95 a month a free modem and the first month free. Oh yeah 49.95 for install. Well got a letter today stating that my rate was going to go up to 56.99 next month. This not what I sign up for in Nov. of 2002. Well when I called comcast they said the prices are subject to change but that is not what came on the mailer and not what I agreed too. I unfortunatly don't have the mailer any more. But I was just thinking that they don't have my signature any where stating that I agreed to this either so I might as well keep the modem and cancel my service and go with roseville dsl. I hate them too but what can I do. If any one else is having this issue. Please e-mail Me at Carstud@attbi.com and also file a complaint at the Better business bureau. There is a far better chance of getting what we want if more of us complain about this. Here a is a link to the Better business bureau. »www.bbb.org DON'T BE FOOLED THEY WILL CHANGE YOUR RATE. |

 | reply to inspiron_ver Hey guys anyone that has Att or comcast now file a complaint with BBB. The link is in my previous post. If they get so many complaints some thing will have to give. And maybe we can get what we want, them to honor there packages ( I know its a pipe dream but lets have some fun and sick the better BBB on them at least may be it will be a headache for them) |

 | reply to sactownie A better place to voice your opinion would be the Sacramento Metropolitan Cable Television Commission. If they get enough complaints possibly something can be placed in the next contract with the local cable franchise(s). If there is enough feedback, maybe it would help get Comcast to share the cable with another ISP, much like Earthlink does in the Seattle market.

Sacramento Metro Cable Commission. Oh, and if you call try to sound intelligent and think about a reason for your complaint, like you don't think you should have to pay more for internet service simply because you do not subscribe to cable TV. |
|
 | Thanks For the info. If I was starting service I would still think about the cable service. My biggest complaint is that they are not honoring what was agreed when I signed up. That is what has me pissed. Think about it. Would you agree to a year contract that they could set the price to what ever they want and you have to pay it. I wouldn't and didn't. This is just wrong. I go with Dtv because the packages are better and cheaper. Thanks again for listening to my gripes and for the great feedback. I will file a complaint with them and I encourage the everyone else to do the same if they feel it is right to do so. |

Re: $10 a month increase starting march 10th The very thing you are saying is what allows them to raise rates - you didn't sign a contract, neither did they. If you want your rate locked in for a year, get DSL and be forced into a year contract - One of the nice things about cable is that it is month to month - no mandatory 1 year contract. The downside is that the cable company can change rates when ever they want to.
I really don't think money is the issue - it's money per quality that most people are upset about. Many people here would pay twice what they are paying for a solid reliable line. (not me, but some - I get a solid reliable connection already)
I agree that you should contact the SMCTC.. or maybe KCRA channel 3... Also - you should register here at DSLR - people like it when you are a registered user - its free, and is not like other register sites - you won't get crap from them... -- Do you want to dance, or do you want to dance? - Thomas Crown |

 | reply to sactownie Has anyone tried contacting the State Attorney General's office? They handle consumer complaints regarding companies doing business in CA.
You can't exactly contest the rate increase but you can maybe fight them not honoring the year contract. Especially if you prepaid for they year.
Make sure they don't have some kind of penalty for you cancelling too early and keeping the modem (which won't do you any good if you switch to DSL).
My company pays for broadband. But I'll pay for dialup out of my own pocket before I pay for this extortion. Fortunately, DSL is an option but if the cable company gets away with these kinds of rate increases, how long before SBC pulls the same crap? Already, CLEC providers like Covad are probably going to have to raise their DSL prices as a result of the FCC vote last week. |
|
 | reply to sactownie But they have been saying no price change all along.
What about #13 on this page re: the transition: »online.comcast.net/help/connect.asp#m
And it's also on the root Comcast site here: »merger.comcast.com/Merger/FAQ/Fa···416.html
How can they do it and publicize the opposite? |
|
 | reply to sactownie yea I got the notice too. I have DISH network in a year contract and cannot sign up for the cable TV "service" either. I'm gonna have to switch to SBC DSL which sucks since they dont offer the binary newsgroups like ATT/COMCAST do.
I did call COMCAST and after waiting 15 minutes on hold advised them about this:
"Will this have any impact on what I pay for service?"
"There are no price changes associated with this name change."

Of course the rep didnt even know about this and it didnt matter one bit |

I got this e-mail about pricing The monthly Internet service fee for customers who subscribe to Comcast High-Speed Internet service and do not subscribe to Comcast cable video service will change from $46.95 to $56.99.
The monthly Internet service fee for customers who subscribe to Comcast High-Speed Internet and any level of Comcast cable video service will remain at $42.95.
Cable modem lease fees will remain at $3 per month and will continue to be charged in addition to the monthly Internet service fee for those customers who do not own their modem.
As the e-mail said, that means no price increase from Comcast here in Citrus Heights/Sacramento.
$42.05 is less than 768/128 aDSL from RTC.
I must be one of the blessed because I've had no outage and a consistent 1750/200 connection. |
