They handle consumer complaints regarding companies doing business in CA.<br><br>You can't exactly contest the rate increase but you can maybe fight them not honoring the year contract.  Especially if you prepaid for they year.<br><br>Make sure they don't have some kind of penalty for you cancelling too early and keeping the modem (which won't do you any good if you switch to DSL).<br><br>My company pays for broadband.  But I'll pay for dialup out of my own pocket before I pay for this extortion.  Fortunately, DSL is an option but if the cable company gets away with these kinds of rate increases, how long before SBC pulls the same crap?  Already, CLEC providers like Covad are probably going to have to raise their DSL prices as a result of the FCC vote last week.]]></description>

If you want your rate locked in for a year, get DSL and be forced into a year contract - One of the nice things about cable is that it is month to month - no mandatory 1 year contract.  The downside is that the cable company can change rates when ever they want to.<br><br>I really don't think money is the issue - it's money per quality that most people are upset about.  Many people here would pay twice what they are paying for a solid reliable line. (not me, but some - I get a solid reliable connection already)<br><br>I agree that you should contact the SMCTC.. or maybe KCRA channel 3... My biggest complaint is that they are not honoring what was agreed when I signed up. That is what has me pissed. Think about it. I go with Dtv because the packages are better and cheaper. Thanks again for listening to my gripes and for the great feedback. The deal Started fine. I signed up for 46.95 a month a free modem and the first month free. Oh yeah 49.95 for install. Well got a letter today stating that my rate was going to go up to 56.99 next month. This not what I sign up for in Nov. of 2002. Well when I called comcast they said the prices are subject to change but that is not what came on the mailer and not what I agreed too. I unfortunatly don't have the mailer any more. But I was just thinking that they don't have my signature any where stating that I agreed to this either so I might as well keep the modem and cancel my service and go with roseville dsl. I hate them too but what can I do. If any one else is having this issue. Please e-mail Me at Carstud@attbi.com and also file a complaint at the Better business bureau. There is a far better chance of getting what we want if more of us complain about this. What gives them the right to raise the price all they want? I am seriously thinking of CANCELLING and NOT RETURNING THE MODEM.  I am sick of their crap.  First of all, their service is pathetic.  The installation guy was an idiot, he didn't tell me ANYTHING about the modem or other stuff.  Their speeds are ok, but FOR NO REASON, I lose my connection.  This has happened a few times.  And when I call them, the computer voice gives me the stupid thing ATT calls "Power Cycling".  It's freakin Cable Modem! I called Customer Service and they said I had to have cable to keep my rate. Digital telephone didn't matter.<br><br>Sooo, I just got off the telephone with Qwest to get copper telephone lines back. Once that happens I'm opting for Speakeasy DSL. Qwest is offering me a good deal on phone, and between the two I'll have about the same combined cost.<br><br>Speakeasy offers 1500 down and 350 up for $89. This and the fact with DSL I won't have the over crowed node slowdowns and AT&T makeshift network to deal with. Also won't have to deal with the ever changing e-mail addresses. (@home, attbi.com, comcast.com) With all the pain and grief they have put the customer through the past several years, you would think that they would lower prices.<br><br>Seems like a win win to me.<br><i>[text was edited by author 2003-02-24 15:35:57]</i><br>]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/422016"><b>jsolo1</b></A> : Attbi/comcast sucky &aacute;$$.<br><br>If service is good in your area, and has been good (which of course is in no terms a prediction of what's to come :) ), you might consider signing up for an annual plan if your budget affords it, and the annual rate they're offering you is based on your older, lower rate.<br><br>I did this back in mid december (service out here in 60115 has been pretty good since mid october after they did some upgrades to the area)  Since dsl is no an option, the attbi/comcrap monopoly wins my business :(<br><br>I locked in a rate of 42.95 for the year (actually 11 months since the 12th is free).   Now, its unlikely they'll change prices on me while on the annual plan.<br><br>In addition, the referral credits come in handy too.  I'm not sure what their limit is, but I've got 2 in so far, so that helps reduce the rate some as well.<br><br>If none of these options work for you, consider adding basic cable for $10 a month (if you're on a 39.99/42.xx rate, this would be less than paying $60/month).<br><br>Otherwise, welcome back to dialup...<br><br>Good luck!!]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/562720"><b>sactownie</b></A> : Well I live in sacramento and just got a call from brian from comcast, Used to be at&t , there raising the monthly cost $10.00 to $59.99 a month.<br>There doing this on my next bill.Has anyone else herd of this?I have not seen it.<br>This sucks because I work in the IT field And I got my rent raised 3 months ago by $100 and I make 20% less then I did 2 years ago.<br>The speed did increase the last 2 months from about 900k to 1.5mbps but I feel there being unfair about notifying me 3 weeks in advance.Brian was very snippety about that, said theres no law against it, well hell with law, what about good customer service?<br>This is the first I herd from anyone with comcast and if this is first glance at there customer service I will soon take my business back to sbc.<br>He was rude and funny at the same time.]]></description>
