Ohhh ok so let me get this right saving money in the end for both the local goverment and the local citizens is not a concern ????
This will do some major good for these cities. After the initial cost is recouped its mostly profit. Means hey more money set into schools after the initial purchases. Don't think about just now think about the future.
This whole tri-city area would be better off. Cheaper services for local goverment saves the tax payers money. Faster net service especially to the cities children in schools will help them get the technology outreach every child deserves.
No borders no boundries for these children. How about them videoconfrencing with other countries children help open there eyes about other countries and the fact that they aren't much different.
If you actually see no long term goal then you have read that test a couple dozen times or work for one of the monopolies.
Let's face it this is good for them and is a sign that the net has become to commercialized and some citizens aren't going to take it. I only wish this to prosper so the monopolies that be learn something. People aren't going to take getting screwed lightly.
If you got 2 cents to add why not register |

 | reply to My2Sense maybe one day if we are lucky the government will run everything from fast food to health care. Just imagine the good deals you will get. If the government pays 400 bucks for a toilet seat, imagine how much a broadband equipment would cost........

Wow! You really got Comcast's and SBC's message! I am impressed. Who ever said, that tax dollars will be used for this initiative? I will help you out: Comcast and SBC say that. Nobody else!
What it will do, is take marketshare away from them, dramatically. They will do whatever they can to protect their market. This whole survey is nothing more than a lie and a proof what corporations are willing to do. The last thing they care about are the customers they serve.
Comcast is advertising themselves as a "neighborhood company" in our area. Do I like such a neighbor? A neighbor which gave a d**n sh** when I asked when broadband will become available. I have waited 6 years! I got a 384 connection last week! And now I should be grateful for that? And pay user fees which are among the highest in teh world? No, thanks!
I live in the TriCity area and hope this referendum goes through. What we experience here right now is lies, deception, fraud - all led by the corporate greed and the purpose to squash any kind of competition. LOL to everybody whoever was concerned about the Microsoft monopoly.

 | reply to My2Sense No tax dollars will be used for this venture. BTW- this broadband network will benefit our schools (and we have fiber in our schools here that link them already),and in the future possibly our fire department alarm systems, police services, the Public Works Dept. etc... And the beauty is.....wait.....it will be paid for by USERS through user fees! Imagine that. Users paying for a service they are using. Can I get that idea to someone??? Oh, and I forgot. The money the USERS pay for their services to the utility stays in our communities. It doesn't leave with some CEO of a large corporation in their "golden parachute". |

Remember that when your phone company tries to extort your local government out of money and taxes to "expand services". |

 | reply to My2Sense That's why people vote. Vote and decide. Let the voting majority rule. -- Welp -- finally trying this cable thing out. |

Tax dollars should be used for whatever voting taxpayers say they should be used for. |

Here's a clue: It's not about running fast food and health care, it's about running what no one else can or wants to run well. If SBC and Comcast ran their service well, these folks wouldn't bother to spend the money to do it right the second time. SBC and Comcast, apparently, are not interested in doing it well, they're interested in holding a population by the short and curlies, and rake in the cash. If they were interested in doing it well, they would have asked completely different questions on their survey.
Now I don't know if it was "freaking" but that was a clue. You're welcome. |

Oh.
I disagree with My2Sense, but just because someone uses an ISP doesn't mean that they think the ISP does everything right.
A broad example. Let's say you're and American talking about the impending war issues with someone from, oh, France. Let's also say you're extremely anti-war. What would your response be if they said, "Your opinions don't count. You're an American." Just because you're an American doesn't mean you agree with everything America does. -- Welp -- finally trying this cable thing out. |

For a state that is already in debt to the billions, a broadband network isn't going to help out. Government is cutting its spending and you are say that by spending a few billion here, a few billion there, they will make money? A network would cost a butt load of money to setup. You have to buy the fiber optic, all the network medium, routers, switches, bridges, blah blah blah. Then you have to pay people to set it up. What about tech support? How would some of the these 80 year old ladies learn how to double click? It costs money to maintain a network. What if someone digs a hole in there yard and cuts the fiber optic? Where is the money going to come from to fix it? Tax payers again? It would be just like a national health program. Its cheaper for everyone to get their own health care than to pay 50% of your wages into taxes. -- I sometimes think I am the only educated FTS agent for SBC!! |
