Re: Confused!!! said by usualpulp: i recently got cable and ill have to say, the ping times are ALOT better with it than on my dsl, on dsl my pings were around 100-150, lower if the server was local, on cable, ive yet to have a ping higher than 75. on average my pings are in the 20's.
I must admit, my pings have been great lately, even during primetime. I went from very bad to just fantastic. Thats why this is such a tough decision.

My DSL speeds were never higher than 900k (the smaller one :-P ) and I was paying $70 a month, could run servers etc on DSL BUT I never have done this. After a month of cable my speeds have been great and pings are equal to DSL. In my opinion DSL is just as much a shot in the dark as cable, both services can be great BUT there are no guarantees. My only thought with DSL is that is your line to your house sucks the TELCO will not fix it very easily, their attitude is if it supports voice then it is within spec and if you get 384k download (even though you signed for 1500) then that is also fine and within contract specs, ie most dsl states 384-1500/128 , they DO NOT guarantee 1500 down and will be more that happy to cap you at lower speeds and still charge you for full bandwidth. The comcast offer I went with is $22 a month for 4 months plus free premium install (after rebate) and so this offsets the cancellation fee of my DSL line. Patrick | |
