Questions about Megapaths routing

hi folks, had a few questions and was wondering if you could help me. I just received my IDSL connection from megapath. once everything was online here and i tweaked my connection i have some ping issues. i have traced the routing of my connection to various servers. it shows me routing to ip-64-32-199-1.dsl.iad.megapath.net with an initial ping of 70 to 80 as my first point of connection. the routing then goes out to what ever routing it needs. so the lowest ping i have ever been able to achive is about 100ms ping. I was concerned about he severe ping time of this first hop so i email megapath with my concern. and wether is was possible to change the wan gateway to a different one. this was their responce:
"Unfortuantely the nearest backhaul that we have which services your area is our Washington DC backhaul."
Im located in Kansas City, Missouri. which is half the distance of the country away from DC. so i asked about changing my routing to one of the other megapath POPs they mentioned on the phone and on their website, ie Chicago, Atlanta, Denver, Dallas. all of which are about 1/3 the distance away from me as DC is. this was their next responce:
Our chicago and Atlanta backhauls are not national backhauls, they are local backhauls. Unfortunatelyyou are too far away from them so we have no way to router you through them.
ok, ? so what about dallas, what about denver? when i first called megapath about setting up an account the customer service rep said my location would be handeled by one of the closets cities, like denver or chicago. i told him that ping time was very important to me, he then tried to assure me that an IDSL is a very fast connection as far as ping times and that i would have no problem with their ping times.
(my actual question) have any of you had issues with your routing to the first POP and was megapath able to re-route you to a different one? what were the results? im feeling very mislead about this new connection.

Same deal with me

I have called atleast 20 times trying to do something about it. I live in Utah, I ordered their IDSL without knowing they would route me through california. Whatever. So It wasn't that bad at first, I pinged like 50. For the past 2 months, I get the exact same ping as you. 70-80 to my first hop, which is bullshit. Basically, they "can't" do anything about it. I tried as you, to get routed through a different hop, and having them tell me the only national ones are DC and LA. Well, I understand where you are coming from man. I get so pissed off I am paying $112/month (I still havn't figured out how they added $12 a month when I was told $100 a month) As soon as I can get cable I am writing the most dirty letter I can to as many people in megapath I can send it to, and taking the $250.00 hit to my check book. This company sucks so much for gaming, unless you by chance have a local hop.

I'm also in the same boat with you guys.I live in Indianapolis and I'm being routed to D.C.My pings to the gateway are usually around 55-60ms.When I signed on I was told I would be routed to Chicago but that never happened and I called to see what was up and they told me that Chicago is a local pop.I really have trouble understanding why they route like they do.They should in the very least is make Chicago a pop for the folks that live in the midwest.MegaPath's connection is reliable but my online gaming has went down to nothing cause of the pings.I'm in the process of looking for a different provider due to the ping issue.

Re: Questions about Megapaths routing

is it possible to just change the gateway setting in the router and send it to somewhere else? or is that even possible?
