What are the best DNS servers here in Dallas?

Well?

Depends! Who's your ISP? I'm sure that there are some DNS servers out there owned/operated by companies or organizations that don't mind if you use their DNS services. Me personally, if I owned and operated ISP infrastructure, such as DNS servers, I would want to limit their use to my customers. I'm sure that there will be arguments that DNS is an open system for anyone's use and I disagree with that assumption.

You can go to »dfw.speakeasy.net and try their DNS servers, they list them somewhere on their site. I have used them and found them to be no better or worse than those of my ISP.

Just stick with your ISP's servers.

Thanks, my ping times from my default server went from 100 average to about 45!

I've been using one of UUNet's in Dallas for years:

ping 198.6.1.2
PING 198.6.1.2 (198.6.1.2): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 198.6.1.2: icmp_seq=0 ttl=243 time=12.8 ms
64 bytes from 198.6.1.2: icmp_seq=1 ttl=243 time=8.1 ms
64 bytes from 198.6.1.2: icmp_seq=2 ttl=243 time=8.0 ms
64 bytes from 198.6.1.2: icmp_seq=3 ttl=243 time=11.4 ms

--- 198.6.1.2 ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 4 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 8.0/10.0/12.8 ms

FYI, 4.2.2.2 is pretty darn easy to remember!
