Re: Another Vonage / Tivo post?

So you still have to make a call every 100 days, even using PPP? I know that is only once every 3 months, but I would love a solution where I could everything with either using Vonage and/or my internet connection.

Okay maybe I'm missing something or I'm just a bit thick at the moment.

So you drag your computer out next to your computer every 100 days because they stop sending data? If it's not connected to your computer then how have they been sending for the past 100 days.

Or is it that Tivo release 100 days of tv guide when you connect via internet (Dialing to direct they only give you the two weeks), hence you have to hook up the PC again to get next the next 100 days thru web?

How does it get your PPV info as I thought that was done with the dial up to Direct?

You said you tried the external modem and got nowhere, I had just been reading that on tivocommunity and was ready to try but this seems the better and like you said probably only option. (I was experimenting last night trying to dial various locations with my PC modem and couldn't connect anywhere at any speed, fax software works though.)

Sorry for all the questions but one just likes to know the full story as things don't always seem clear to all of us without a fuller picture. Many Thanks.

We are talking about the HDVR2 here, so all guide data comes via the satellite from Directv. However, all models of Tivo get roughly the same amount of guide data, which is 12-14 days. There is no way for anyone to see 100 days in the future to know what will be on TV then.

I'm HDVR2 as well. So what do I have to have a dial/ppp in for? Or is that what you are saying, you don't have to call them but after 100 days they stop sending the tv guide by satellite unless you dial or ppp in to say you are still alive?

So in essence the dial up interactivity they tell you is so important is merely for ordering ppv and to stop you from getting cut off with satellite provided guide every 100 days?
