The Beast From The East

As a former AT&T cable modem installer here in the San Francisco Bay Area, I quit specifically because I didn't want to work for Comcast.

I just recevied an email from Comcast this morning bragging about their improved services and blah blah blah....

I replied with a note: "You mean improved service like bandwith restrictions and a higher rate for customers that don't have TV service? %$#@ you."

The bible talks about "the beast rising from the east." Well it's here folks.

AT&T had these also.

I find this discussion sort of ironic. I recently switched from Speakeasy DSL to Comcast because it saves me about $15/month. My condo fee already covers the cost of cable TV.

I'd also considered going with Covad as both my ISP and carrier, for about the same as cable. But I would have had to pay $99 for hardware, and would have only gotten 384kb.

There are a lot of things I don't like about Comcast, but its an acceptable tradeoff. Cable seems to always be a monopoly, so I have low expectations. I'm more worried about SBC.
