 | AT&T DSL Guys, after buying Northpoint, now AT&T provides DSL service with double price compare to the others, and you have to buy or lease the router ($100 for buy, $10 for lease) Wonder who gonna sign up with them (not me...) »www.att.com |

tk99 join:2000-11-26 Irwin, PA | Just got a formal quote from AT&T DSL service. They will replace my 400k/400k Northpoint SDSL line with a 144/144 IDSL line for only $89 a month. What a deal we have here. I get a lower speed for twice the price. Don't ya just love it! |

 | At&t will never see another penny from me or my companies. After reading Fridays news and then being Northpoint/DSL dropped today. I switched all my long distance to sprint. AND I WILL NEVER GO TO ANY AT&T Product.
I am so pissed I will even cancel my AT&T cable at home which I keep as alternate to my DirectTV. |

Anon | reply to sanfranciscian Thinking of ATT, I still(luckily have my NP DSL), but have no phone service. DEAD phone and ATT is my carrier for local and long distance(changed this to Sprint today). I had to call several times to get service finally scheduled, but will be another day. ATT stated they use SWB for service, but I called SWB and they provide 24 hour service. WE would go back to SWB if price is right for local. Anyway, I got Sprint long distance for free with my NEW order for Sprint Broadband wireless service. Will take two weeks to install. ATT offers no DSL here, nor cable to my house. My ISP stated they may have a deal with another DSL provider, but I told them no, I already waited long enough and placed my order with Sprint. Hope to keep running this weekend. |

 | Hey Guys,
Yes AT&T did something stupid by allowing northpoint to go dead before offering a migration, and it was a BONEHEAD move for sure. They should have left the network on for 30 days and offered migration. But don't bash them for charging more... it was the fact that NorthPoint didn't charge a reasonable amount for service in the first place that caused them to no longer exist... |

GarageJoeU2 Rocks join:2001-03-21 Scottsdale, AZ | Acually Be Real as an EX-NP employee i can state for a fact that the reason they went under didnt have as much do with the price they offered as it did other factors. 1)Receiving funds from ISP's that went under hurt the outgoing cash flow a considerable amount with over 10 ISP's not fully meeting there cash obligations to NP and as well filing for bankruptcy. 2)Piss poor management of said funds they did have. Not funding the correct departments, and letting under qualified people be in management that had no business there (Are you finally getting the point Liz?) and 3) Poorly run departments. I know i just said this partially but i dont think most people out there understand how bad it was. Anyone that had DSL installed by NP can tell you (majority anyways) Scheduling was TERRIBLE. Paying technicians to go out and install a line that people had no idea that the technician was coming to install that day. One guy says one thing the other guys says another. Very frustrating. Then there are the computer technicians that dont know there butt from there heads. finally 4) THe ILECs as well werent helping matters when they dont install the line properly the first time. Sure there are times when weather conditions will affect the conditioning of the line. But really how often does that happen in a freak scenario before somebody from NP executives are going to ask OK, how often is this going to happen before we see a routine here. The ILECs are better off if the CLECs werent there. And any under handed business they can get away with i am sure is going on. To bad its easier to be heard here than by responsible executives in NP manangment. |

 | GARAGEJOE,
Don't think for a minute I am letting NP off the hook here, yes they were mismanaged, yes they had tons of mistakes, yes their executives and board were just out for the big payoff of the IPO not for the long term viability of the company.. all of these things are true. The only point I am trying to make is don't Bash AT&T for charging more for DSL... DSL prices across the board are going up, and AT&T has every right to charge a realistic price, and after NorthPoint and soon to be Rythms they have an added impetus to charge more, and customers will recognize this.
I am currently on COVAD and I am debating a change to PACBELL or AT&T... not because they are great, I despise both of them, but the reality is they are going to be around in 12 months... I can't say that about any of the other players. And if my DSL goes down, I LOSE MONEY!!! Its not just a matter of I can't run picsucker... but I lose money. Now I am not running a hosting service like some, which I gotta say fairly foolish to do that via DSL, but I do host my own service via it, and I can deal with an outage here or there if it happens. But I cannot deal with it just going away without notice forever. |

 | reply to PatientGuy AT&T is didn't have to drop residential customers and I don't have to use AT&T wireless and long distance services either. AT&T provides minimal DSL (according to their web site) in my area for $49/month and should have offered to reprovision affected users. I plan to complain through ATT's Executive Complaint number 908 222-4191 (they accept collect calls) and cancel my wireless and long distance service through AT&T in protest. I encourage others who have been injured by the AT&T buyout terms or who are just plain disgusted with it to register their concerns and vote with their feet. They may kill DSL competition, but there are still plenty of wireless and long distance providers!!! |

| reply to Emeryville Hey man I am with you 100% on that!!! I use to work at a company that AT&T bought out; they fucked it all up, and got rid of everyone!! And on top of that, at my new company, we use to have NP, so fuck AT&T, I will never host with them!!! I spent all last week trying to get set up with someone. I feel like I was raped!!!! LOL.. I finally found a company based in San Jose,CA.. Small, but they got me up and running in '1' day!! painless! Best move we made.. [text was edited by author 2001-04-03 19:01:14] |
