knology and linksys befsx41

I have a linksys befsx41 connected to my knology cable modem and have found that I need to release/renew on the router every so often for the service to work again. Anyone else had this problem?

That's seems odd!! I have never used a Linksys on my service, but I have used a Netgear RT314 and a Linux based firewall/router. I never had to release and renew my IP. Is you linksys firmware up to date?

Yes make sure the firmware is up to date. Also this is a issue with high usage in the area. I beleive they have created a budget to fix this type of thing. Hope everything straightens out.

I've got the most recent firmware for the router (1.44.8)and I've also noticed that on occasion I can't connect to the admin page for the router. It seems to straighten itself out within a couple of minutes but is still weird. Also my speed really sucks. Usually I only get around 600 down. I've only seen 1400 and 1000 once each. Most times I'm under 600....what the heck is going on. I miss my dsl.

DavidZC,

Try this for me. Hook you cable modem directly to your PC and then do a speedtest. I have seen Linksys routers actually cause a speed decrease ( I experienced this with Comcast). Also, have you tweaked your PC?

I'll try just hooking it up to my computer without the router. I had tweaked my PC for DSL and I'm assuming the tweaks would probably hold true for cable as well.

You'll probably want to change your MTU to 1500 if it's not already. And since Knology is now 2000kbps download, you may need to increase your "TCP Receive Window" as well.

That's another thing. I can't get the tweak tester to work anymore. I've even tried disabling the firewall protection and it still will not work.

I would except the tweak tester is not working now for some reason.

I have the BEFSX41 as well, and love the darned thing. I can ping the heck out of anybody, but they can't ping me! My favorite feature has to be its URL filtering...an excellent utility to block DoubleClick, Adserve, Fastclick, Valueclick, etc.

Did you clone your NIC's IP address to the router? That's what I'm interested in knowing.

No, I thought I would have to at first but when they came to do the install (the second time) they just registered the MAC of the router.
