Anon | This is pissing me off. I'm down in Chicago, since thursday. I have iDSL thru rythms. Called telocity, they're telling me 10 days for migration. Until then, it looks like I'm stuck on 56k, or is phoenix not down for good?
I've got all green, and even the date light flashes every so often, but I get dns errors when I try to use the internet with the iDSL. Anyone got some answers? They'd help ease the pain :/ |

Any suggestions for good DNS server numbers? We have been down since 7:30p.m. last night. Telocity told me the same thing. 7 to 10 days. -- Regards from the Southland Wolf |

Anon | Good idea, I didn't think of that. Sadly, I just tried using megapath's dns servers, and no luck
Any other ideas? I emailed phoenix about this, and was told that telocity started the migration,a nd to call them. nothing more.
My beef is this: Why will it take so long to migrate me and other people? 10 days when all they have to do is give me some ip addresses? And why was I not notified about my migration? Oh well. Any other ideas will be greatly appreciated, as always! |

If you can't get to it then DNS isn't the problem. Just because you have synch doesn't mean you have an internet connection (or even one outside of your CO). I had synch for weeks after Rhythms stopped servicing my CO but the line was still essentially dead to the outside world, and to me. |

Anon | So what does this mean? |

It doesn't require DNS resolution, so if you can't get to it on your DSL line then your connection is down. |
|
Anon | Okay. So now the question is: Why is my dsl line down... Phoenix is only in St. Louis... Not too far away from me... *sigh* |

sadowskiI Am My Own DoppelgangerPremium,MVM join:2000-04-14 Buffalo, NY | I have no idea. Who is your LEC, Rhythms or NorthPoint? If it's NP then they probably shutdown.
For those thinking of using MSN dialin while their DSL lines are unavailable, it looks like MSN is now blocking outbound requests to port 25 (SMTP) except to their own server. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
I can telnet to my own SMTP server from an outside host so it's only outbound request that are blocked. Running your own server doesn't help since it tries to deliver on port 25 so all those outgoing connect attempts naturally fail.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!! If it weren't a free account I'd cancel it! |

Anon | reply to Anon If I do a traceroute I can get to my subnet's gateway (at Phoenix) and make one more hop, but that's it. Can't get all the way to the dns or anywhere else. It's been in this condition for me since sometime Saturday evening. |

I am in the exact same situation. Anything beyond the second hop returns "destination unreachable." |

Phoenix isn't going to respond. According to the rep I talked to last week, they closed the support center on Friday. Email I sent today got an auto-reply suggesting a call to telocity.
When I called Telocity and finally got through, they told me I had been migrated as of the 30th (Thursday). My line stopped working at 5:40 am, edt, on Monday 4/2. Call Telocity again. Unless you're part of the Northpoint fiasco, they should have better news once they find you in the db. I think you just got someone who didn't bother to look. |
|
 | Spensergig -- I'm in the same boat as you (and I'm geographically close, though I have no idea if that means anything). I was supposed to be migrated on 3/30 (Friday, not Thursday) according to the e-mail I received, but my line continued working until this morning at exactly the same time as yours -- around 5:40 AM.
Did you get anywhere with Telocity? The rep I had couldn't really help beyond having me reboot and power cycle, trying an IP he gave me manually, and then giving up and filing a ticket. He said I should get a call in 1-5 days. Erg. |

| I called their Tech Support number 1-888-773-3349,3,1 and spoke to a person (about a 15 min wait.). He was able to give me my userid and password, but not any of the IP info. I tried the id/password on the webmail site, and it worked. I'm trying to reach Tech support now at 888-773-3349,3,3 to get my IP, netmask, and gateway IP. Once I have those, I'll have an idea if I really migrated or not. Unfortunately, wait time is currently more than an hour.
And you're right - 3/30 was a Friday. I looked at a 2000 calendar. ----------------------------------------------- Edit: I got through, got my IP, mask, gateway IP, and dns servers. I've tested the email using the webmail page, back and forth to work. Now I have to wait until I get home! Gonna be hell typing the changes with my fingers crossed.
For you, I'd suggest calling again. I'm seeing much variation in skill sets, volume, and language facility. [text was edited by author 2001-04-02 16:32:24] |

SpensergigThreadkiller SupremePremium,MVM join:2000-03-26 Bradenton, FL | Followup - Transition not complete Well, it didn't go as well as I hoped. Could not ping the gateway (destination host unreachable).
But.. I got through to a super tech (Armand), who did some thorough trouble-shooting. He said this was the second Rhythms iDSL line in MA that he'd had trouble with today.
We can traceroute to a router in chicago, and no further. He put in an expedited trouble ticket for Rhythms - he thinks they built the circuit wrong (virtual circuit?). His comment was that iDSL setup is different from standard, and they aren't used to it. He thinks they routed me to the wrong place. I'll keep adding updates, 1-2 times/day.
Wait times are a b&*(, but I'm not unhappy yet. (But then again, I do have the RCN line to fall back on.) |
