Anon | Npt - customers - zombies, dead but don't know it Northpoint isn't all down, verizon is carrying them free for 30 days to give customers time to switch. [A bone to regulators in Washington & California?] I thirty days they'll realize they died and as 100,000 customers look for new service, switching is going to get crowded. I use Beannet.com [Covad reseller - »www.beannet.com] and they have switched connections in a week. Covad is about the only independent that has stated to analysts that is has enough cash to run into 2002. Maybe if the free stuff is actually over and they get enough customers we can have companies that actually stay in business. |

I believe Rhythms has stated that it also has enough cash to run through the first quarter of 2002.
One hopes that after the dust from NorthPoint's demise settles, we'll be left with CLECs and ISPs that have a solid business plan. For if the independent providers all go away, we'll be left with nothing but ILEC DSL. -- Jim Seymour & Karel the Computer Cat Agents Provocateurs Extraordinaire irc://irc.dal.net/#dslreports |

LOL one would wonder if this two will end up being deregulated just like the telco's were (even though today we see the monopoly being brought back together slowly but surely) ILEC DSL no doubt will see no better turn out than already is in commission. Wanna know what kind of service you will get? Goto the forum of your ILEC on DSLR to see the service they provide. It will only get worse. WHY? Why should the ILEC's bother giving better service they will be around and people are willing to pay whatever for absolutely terrible service. If anyone is to blame for the ILEC's being the only ones left standing after the dust settles, we need only look at ourselves. Matthew |
